Sooo... Benchmarking question here...

I have listened a lot to C4 demos as well as FI demos and they both are very impressive!
However, in the Jayme Lewis "full demo" of the C4, he does the expected sounds from Axel F etc. Not perfect replicas, but with the right "vibe"!
Then he shows a modern, massive all synth bass for EDM. Can the FI do that? Is there a factory preset for it? I could not find one.

Send me a link to an example of the sound you mean and I’ll let you know. I’m pretty sure it’ll do it, whatever it is though.

had the Fi and edit working for 3 weeks and in the middle a session tonight the program and Fi stop talking to each other. the editor will not open since...... I still have issues saving without the editor shutting down as well. getting very annoyed cause I don;t know what I am doing wrong

What platform are you on? Windows or MAC?

What FI firmware and editor are you using?

What are you using to connect your FI to the editor and exactly what is connected to what?

Has your computer’s OS recently updated? If so, have you updated the relevant drivers for the device you are using to connect your computer to the FI?

When you say “won’t open”, do you mean the editor fails to launch after clicking on its icon?

Did you unplug the midi device used to connect the FI to the editor? I’ve had an issue where unplugging the USB device used to connect will cause the editor to close. I reported it a while ago and Zsolt sent an email today saying he’ll look at it.

If there has been a midi-related crash such as the one I described, you need to re-select the device in the editor’s midi preferences menu.

That is very kind of you! I have checked many of your uploads, and you are doing a great stuff! :thumbsup:
It is the below video. He starts around 0:45 with "Axel F", then "Black or white", and at 1:30 there is this modern synth bass.


You are the expert, so what do you say about my below reflection?
In many demos, the C4 bass sounds have more "authority" and "slam" in the lowest frequency than the FI offers. The FI sounds seem to lack a bit of that gut wrenching texture and "weight" of the fundamentals.
Or is it just the FI demos that do not represent the pedal well? That "slam" factor is very important to me.

4. No updates. was working a patch noticed that the Fi wasnt responding to editor changes so I turned the program off and back on.

5. After I turned the program off, ever time I try and open it it tells me there was a problem and shuts down. cant even get in. I deleted everything and tried to redownload no luck. CANT GET INTO EDITOR WAS WORKING AN HR AGO .... ARGGHHH

Are you on Catalina? If so, make sure you have updated the UM-one driver to v1.0.3.

The FI should be able to do that sound no problem. Do you know if that preset is available on Neuro? If so, let me know which it is and I can have a look at it in the editor.

I haven’t looked at the waveforms on an oscilloscope so can’t say how the the frequency spectra of the two pedals compare. (In fact, I might try and record a comparison of the raw waves out of curiosity.)

There is a lot of gain staging and EQ potential in the FI which perhaps isn’t being exploited in all the patches/demos out there. I’ve heard my patches through a big amp and they didn’t seem to lack weight.

Did you try the app clean software mentioned and attempt a fresh install afterwards. Worth a try as it seems to have sorted

So are you on Catalina? And have you got the latest v1.0.3 um-one drive, (irrespective of whether it was working a few hours ago)? If you were running an old driver, it might have worked partially until you tried to do a particular thing. Always best to rule that out. It happened to a friend of mine, we were scratching our heads for ages. Updating the driver fixed his particular issue, though it was a different one from yours.

I have heard of some mac-related problems which seem to be occurring when background updates happen. I don’t have a Mac so I can’t investigate.

I presume you restarted the pedal.

Catalina when it happened and was working... just updated to the newest version I do have an Roland MKone version 2 and the newest driver instaled
. I am sorry If I seem short but I was in the middle of recording and I am losing my mind currently. I thank you so much for your time.

You’re welcome. I do understand that it is frustrating. Unfortunately since I don’t have as Mac, my experience with it is limited to when my friend had problems with his in relation to getting the editor working. Let us know if you make any progress. If you can’t get it working, I’d suggest contacting Panda and see if you can get your problem passed to Zsolt who wrote the editor - he should be able to offer better help than I can.

Here you go, FI is played first in both clips, levels all matched prior to recording.

That is exactly what is intended - a direct comparison of the unfiltered sawtooth and square wave oscillators of both pedals, i.e. the building blocks of synth sounds.
