Future Impact now available!! WAS: deep impact reissue!!! interested?

Ok, listened with AKG K271 studio...
So, in both clips, the first section (FI) is smoother and purer. The C4 section has much more harmonics, and (if anything) it seems of those, there is a lot of odd ("ugly") harmonics. The C4 sounds not only brighter, but "dirtier" and less pleasing.

I guess I need to check in my large home stereo later to see if they have their own character in the low end.

That is very kind of you! I have checked many of your uploads, and you are doing a great stuff!
It is the below video. He starts around 0:45 with "Axel F", then "Black or white", and at 1:30 there is this modern synth bass.

You are the expert, so what do you say about my below reflection?
In many demos, the C4 bass sounds have more "authority" and "slam" in the lowest frequency than the FI offers. The FI sounds seem to lack a bit of that gut wrenching texture and "weight" of the fundamentals.
Or is it just the FI demos that do not represent the pedal well? That "slam" factor is very important to me.

Hey there. I can tell you first hand that the FI does not lack low end at all. It has mega slam and a gut punch like you won't believe, It is insane how thick it is and how it can rattle subs. You really need to hear the FI through a real PA with subs to appreciate how huge sounding it is. My sound engineer and I look at each other and literally start cracking up because he is reaching for the bass eq to lower it on my channel on the sound board sometimes when I engage the FI because of how much authority it has in the low end. The FI is a beast.

Btw I hope everyone here and their families are safe and healthy. I miss perusing talkbass and miss playing too. Most of all I miss my family. I hardly even get to see my wife and kids. I could go 3 days without seeing them... and when I do see them, it's for like 15 minutes-30 minutes, except for Saturday's which is my only day off for now. I'm working 15 hour days, 6 days a week. It's rough, but I am thankful that my family is safe and healthy, and that I have a job to support them. My wife just got furloughed for 12 weeks. Tough times.

Stay safe!

Thanks! I am not concerned about the low frequencies lacking in volume, as I can hear plenty of low end.
I am more worried about the "impact" of the synthier sounds; are the transients right, do the notes "breathe", do they have "texture" and so on.

But given the myriad of controls on the FI, including ADSR, I guess the sky is the limit? However, the C4 will definitely deliver deadly dub bass straight out of the box.

The FI should be able to do that sound no problem. Do you know if that preset is available on Neuro? If so, let me know which it is and I can have a look at it in the editor.

I haven’t looked at the waveforms on an oscilloscope so can’t say how the the frequency spectra of the two pedals compare. (In fact, I might try and record a comparison of the raw waves out of curiosity.)

There is a lot of gain staging and EQ potential in the FI which perhaps isn’t being exploited in all the patches/demos out there. I’ve heard my patches through a big amp and they didn’t seem to lack weight.

I never ran them through an oscilloscope, but during this last time I had the C4 I did run both pedals through a couple of spectral analyzer VSTs and made a video of it. Both with a direct sawtooth and a sawtooth with a fully open 4-pole LPF (filter at the highest setting on each). Might have done square too, I can't remember. I ultimately never posted it since it was supposed to be used as an argument to get a 4-pole filter on the C4 that would go above 6Khz, but since I decided not to keep the C4 there didn't really seem like much point. I have still debated over posting it though, just as a helpful reference for people who are trying to decide on one or just to let people visibly see what the differences between the two are. I might still try and do it on here then.

Always worth a look.

My clips bypass the filters entirely.

I checked again, and I still think the second part of both clips sound brighter and "dirtier". Lowering the volume in the second half will not change this.
The difference is not huge, but it is there.

Thank you for helping out!
Brighter isn’t a bad thing at all - there’s more the filters to work with, though as @SirTarquin points out, the C4 LPF caps at 6kHz.

Great, that puredata editor works even on my oldtimer mac... Thanks Lokki! :bassist:

The only function i'm missing seems to be the foldover distortion.

I used a simple ESI Midimate II, but did not yet try to write presets or to upgrade firmware.
I bought one a midimate II, too. But no connection to the FI (Communication error...) Can you please give me your settings under preferences in the editor? Thanks a lot. Regards Hagen

Updated to the newest OS already had catabunga or *** it is..... told me my um one isnt supported anymore,...... dont know how to roll back
To roll back, the easiest way is if you have a Time Machine backup of your system from before the update- then all you have to do is revert to that version and it will include the downgraded operating system. I made the mistake of updating to Catalina before checking out compatibility with all my gear and ended up having to do a much more involved downgrade process to get back to Mojave (doing a fresh boot from the original OS on my computer then finding a Mojave update and reloading all my computer info and files) since I didn't ever previously use Time Machine (I will always use it from now on because it was such a PITA to get everything working again). If you don't have a Time Machine backup you are probably better off tracking down another MIDI interface
