Nope, it doesn’t spit out MIDI notes from the audio input.

No, the FI doesn’t know what MIDI notes it is playing when it is being triggered via the audio. Remember, it reacts to any subtle changes in pitch when bending strings and is simply doing a frequency analysis that has no relation to MIDI numbers. To convert those frequencies back to the nearest MIDI number would take extra processing and code space, neither of which is available.

However, when it is being triggered via the MIDI input, it is reacting to discrete MIDI note data and can pass that on via the MIDI Thru.

For a cheap pitch-to-MIDI converter, take a look at the Sonuus G2M.

I received my FI yesterday and it was waiting patiently for me when I got home from work. I spent the next 2 + hrs just going thru the factory sounds. I’m very impressed by the tracking and sound quality. My only regret is that I wish I hadn’t of waited so long to get one.
I have a C4 as well and I am equally impressed with that , but to me the FI has better usable sounds straight out of the box. I’m sure this isn’t the same for everyone but there are presets that are just right for me and require nothing other than setting the input and output.
I’m not put off by the size or anything about the enclosure. It’s really no bigger than my MBD-1.
Now I just need to shuffle some pedals around and get the midi connected and figure out how to run it with my MC6. @Quatschmacher , if it’s alright I may need to PM you for some direction in that aspect as I know you use the MC8 and SA pedals and hub. I will need to order something to get it connected to my PC for editing but right now I’m in no hurry because I can use plenty of the factory presets.
If your on the fence about buying a FI, don’t wait. Take advantage of the sale and I’m sure you will be happy you did.

As your unit is probably on v3.60 already you won’t need to update the firmware. For everything else around FI patch management and editor, you can use the MC6 as the interface to the computer. Plug the MC6 into the computer via USB, select it as the input and output device in the editor then hook up MIDI cables between the MC6 and FI 5-pin input and output ports.

I might still have an old MC6 backup file with some FI assignments in it that I could share. I’ve got a lot going on life-wise right now so may not be as responsive and helpful as I usually am but drop me a line and I’ll reply if I can.

@mdalamond, you’ll also need to make sure “Cross MIDI Thru” is switched on on the MC6

Is hardware design final ?
I hope you don't use the USB micro connector, worst thing ever.

On the midiBeam Wireless we used the mini B, and nowadays we got complaints that the cable is hard to get any more, it is getting out of fashion (I do not know why). Therefore, we designed the new midiBeam 4Control with micro B. However, from now on we will deliver both midiBeam devices with a proper USB cable.

I'm not sure it's terribly hard to get a Mini USB any more but it's certainly less common than the Micro. I would have liked to see USB-C, and maybe even Boss-style powering (I realize the USB is more than power).

Andras, you are a true gem! It's so refreshing to have a company reach out to the community and ask for suggestions and feedback on product development. Thanks for sharing.
I'm used to working with the micro B, so many of my music devices use it, so not a problem for me. And I'm glad you are including a micro B cable with it. Outstanding. While I like my Morningstar MC6 midi interface, I think this is perfect for the end user who likes to keep it simple. Great job.

Bluetooth low energy: the less stuff needs to be cabled together, the more the system will be used.
