Future Impact now available!! WAS: deep impact reissue!!! interested?

If there is an actual product at the end of this saga, I will be a) very pleasant surprised; b) I will buy one; c) I will note it as the single worst development process I have ever witnessed....

I don't think it's a terrible development process. I think we don't know that much about the development process. I think it's a terrible PR process. Either give us more info first-hand (instead of through a middle-man) OR just keep it under wraps and surprise us with it someday.

Sorry - that's what I meant. Obviously we have no idea about the technical prowess of the "developer".

If we are to believe everything we're told, there is some reason to have confidence in the actual technical development. If.

This is just a suggestion of functions - Pricing I have no idea what it would cost. For me €200 euro is pushing the boundary but in gbp it sounds small at £143.281 sterling.
I suppose sterling prices would be £200 & up which for me would be too rich at €280 euro and that would be for a unit with similar or lesser function to the original.
As for FUNCTIONS - pick the most useful or plausible from below:
- Make the tracking tight
- Give a good range of presets - say 50 factory presets Plus 50 user definable presets
- Ability to store presets to computer over usb or directly onto a thumb drive
- Ability to recall an entire bank of 50 user presets
- Ability to individually load single presets to chosen patch locations from a folder on a computer or thumb drive
- Selection of presets "INSPIRED" by the original or rebuilt to sound the same that maybe can get around the akai ownership issue.
- Sounds: P-Funk, Bootsy Collins, Snoop Dog, Korn, Muse, Nine Inch Nails, driving, grunting, belligerent, nasty, ripping, dirty, sharp.... AGGRESSIVE SOUNDS that will work well combined with distortion & modulation.
- Step Sequencing
- Ring Mod
- Wave type choices
- pwm
- Horn Sounds
- Talking sounds
- Expression pedal connection to drive wave oscillation speed, sweep and combined speed & sweep. Ability to morph wave types using expression
- ping pong between wave types with assignable speed & velocity which can also be driven by an on board step sequencer
- Dry/Wet between effect & bass output with tracking delay compensation of some sort if needed so the dry & wet are in sync
- Make it a nicer shape but still substantial
- Keep the rotary selection dials
- Big, clear displays
- Market it to synth players as well to broaden the customer base
- Make it in tactical flat black with lots of green & red l.e.d's
- Call it "DEEP RISING" or something powerful

My initial words on pricing for THIS kind of unit was: "Hell - fit all that in & I might pay €160 but above €170 & it's not so attractive"
But that is - as people have mentioned unreasonable for that amount of work.
I have no idea what the original was priced at. Considering I just paid €200 euro for a Morley Power Fuzz Wah then the unit i described would be a ridiculous price. Id love it though.

Assuming I'm doing the conversion right I don't think that's a reasonable price expectation whatsoever. You're asking it to be better and cheaper coming from a small builder than the units that are on the market already from large companies (Markbass, EHX, etc.).

€120/120 Euro - No problem.

I hate to say it but I would guess we are looking at 2x your price at best. I hope I am wrong.

At 2x the price, still under $400 USD, I will be all over it.

I suppose - just giving my thoughts - its a wishlist. After I put it all down & saw how much was there I knew the price would be larger. It would be a very cool unit though - for me at least.

I dont know - I thought the ebay prices were too much but it seems to be what people will pay for new
At 2x the price, still under $400 USD, I will be all over it.
But that puts it around the lowest hoped for value on ebay no? I have been watching the prices go nuts - last year or the year before I saw one for go for about £350 sterling but I couldnt afford it. & I still cant. Someone has to put out a fast synth - the boss syb's are fairly useless - I have both & was so disappointed with the tracking - practically unusable. I was after the korn sound

$400 on eBay for an original Akai DI? That would be an insane steal. I'm sure one here or there goes for cheap, but it's way below the usual. If you read back through the thread, this is already supposed to be somewhat better than the original in terms of features, with the promise of being at least as good on the tracking. So I would not mind paying that price.

Do we know power specs? Assuming voltage is the same. Amperage could be different if it is much more feature rich. Anyone?

If it doesn't require over 400mA I'm game. Would pre-order asap. Otherwise my Chunk OS will remain unchallenged. It's a beast, tiny, and low amperage. Needs more knobs and a third stomp switch as long as we are wish listing here.

Anyone own both? Would love a comparison. Or a link if it's been done.

ok... guys. here is an update from the not so loved middle-man :-)

there are three prototype boards ready. they do work, that is great news!! however, as usual in such a process, there are minor things that need to be changed, hence there will be delays.

first of all the potentiometers are in the wrong way around, controls go from 1 to 11 instead of 7 to 5. this needs to be changed obviously...

second, some of the capacitors in the circuit are microphonic and with some high gain settings, a knock or bump on the case can be heard in the pedals output (like on a big muff for example). this is of course not intended. so he has to fit different caps.

these two things require a new pcb-board.

then i want to address some of the comments regarding communication and stuff.

i understand your "frustration", eagerness to get a look at the pedal etc.

however you have to take into account that,

1. this is one person that does all of this! it is not just programming a chip and let a big company do the case and production. it's all done by him.
2. he does it in his spare "free" time, his "day"-job is also in a similar area, so i guess it can be very hard to work on it after working in a similar field the whole day...
3. this thread was initially thought as a place to check for interest in the pedal, making a decision if it is feasible to produce a small batch. this decision has been made, based on the thread and that is already great!

4. the "PR" is of course terrible. i am sorry for that. but it is not a company doing big business. it's just him doing the work to get the deep impact reissued and me informing you about the progress. one could argue that it would have had been better not to inform you at all and than surprise you. but as i wrote, maybe then there would not even be a reissue. i just write here when there are news.

which brings me to the next point:

i will be getting a prototype! and no, there is no e.t.a. on this. but i will surely let you know, when i try it!!!

this development process is real and it is happening! i think in the end it does not matter if it is finished today or in a year. let us just be very happy that it happens at all!
