Here is the one I'm talking about. This was NAMM 2017. This was my friend Lloyd, who passed away at the end of this year's show. We miss him. The controls are V-V-T with a series/parallel switch.

Also, I'm not sure if that bass was the one on display at NAMM in 2019, but I played on one that looked nearly identical and it was SUPERB. It's the one that got me thinking to try and acquire one of his basses.

I think you’re correct. I remember it being at the Bass Place and they added a preamp to it. That's a great price for that bass...

Tech 21 always wanted a passive bass, so they could show off their foot pedals and such. I think that this bass is at a ridiculously low price, and If I had it, I would add active bass/treble. You could even add another pickup!

ah, you have the walnut-topped ggj5. i saw a pic or two floating around the interwebs years ago. she's a beaut!
the '92 modulus ain't too shabby either!

Since that is the same bass, did you or someone else go back through and install an active preamp? It looks like when it was at the show that it was passive, but now it has three knobs in the photos on Reverb.

I mean, I'm trying to negotiate with the seller and you're showing my hand!

I've got an offer tied up in another bass right now or I probably would have dropped the hammer on that one already. I've been quietly trying to keep the flood gates from breaking on the Gould after our little hoorah on that bass over here but now there's a leak in the system and I don't know how long my good fortune will hold!

(I'm just being selfish. I'm glad you shared the deal...sort of.)

I was just moving some stuff from one storage locker to another (my storage space picked a fine time to go out of business during a shelter-in-place lockdown!), and I wondered what was in my old briefcase that's made like a hardshell case. I opened it up, and among other things, there was a little pile of these cards!

I just found an old gem while going through some boxes. My first NAMM show I think was in 2002 (maybe 2004) and I'm pretty sure I picked this up then. I remember very briefly meeting Geoff and asking if I could play one of the basses he had on display, and (absolutely no offense taken whatsoever, especially this many years later), I was told no. I would have told me no too back then! Well, low and behold I now own one of this basses, #1292.

geoff, do you happen to know off-hand what the diameter and the thread size is of the neck screws you use on the graphite necks? looking to stock up on some for my parts drawer. the screws i believe are 1" long and would like to have 1.25" (1 1/4") available in case i need a screw that's a bit longer than 1".

hopefully the local home depot or lowes will have stock in their metric screws section.

They are 10-32 flathead hex drive screws. I’m currently using 1.25”, but have used 1.5” in the past. You could damage the neck if you use too long a screw.

It’s not hard to establish whether the one and a half inch screw will fit, but some people won’t take the trouble to look first. Not worth the risk!
