Yeah, that's something that I'd be a little bit concerned about, but not overly. I've been really used to the 17mm spacing and 2.75" necks on my 5 strings (I have an FB5 as well). It's not that I can't play a wider neck, it's just that I find the Modulus specs to be about right. I know for sure that I can't do 19mm on a 5 string and 18mm is about my limit so long as the neck is comfortable. Geoff's website has the string spacing as 17.5mm, but I think he's said before it's more like 18mm-ish.

I regularly switch between my Awesome GGI6 & Quantum 6. Though I always feel the difference in the necks, within about a minute the GGI6 (with its slightly larger neck) feels like home.. My Flea 5 is just stupid fast!! No comparison yet with a GGI5..

Totally agree about the Flea 5. It's a different profile than the Q5, in addition to being 34" scale, and I'm always faster on it. I finally got to play the GGi4 live today and what a PHENOMENAL bass that thing is. The neck is the most comfortable I've ever played by a long shot. That's what has been getting me thinking about a GGi5 in a possible replacement for my Q5 - never thought I'd say that.

ah, you have the walnut-topped ggj5. i saw a pic or two floating around the interwebs years ago. she's a beaut!
the '92 modulus ain't too shabby either!

I just found an old gem while going through some boxes. My first NAMM show I think was in 2002 (maybe 2004) and I'm pretty sure I picked this up then. I remember very briefly meeting Geoff and asking if I could play one of the basses he had on display, and (absolutely no offense taken whatsoever, especially this many years later), I was told no. I would have told me no too back then! Well, low and behold I now own one of this basses, #1292.

Nice to remember the late Jon Sievert, who took the picture for me.

I was just some goofy looking kid wandering the show. That’s all the reason you needed! I think you were just sitting behind the display table at the time which was towards the front of the booth. I had probably spent a quarter of my day bugging the guys at Modulus (probably Tony even back then), and I remember walking by and thinking, “Geoff Gould...oh yeah! He founded Modulus!” I think your necks were all CF, so would that have been 2004?

Can anyone share with me what the controls are (3 knobs)? Can it be played in passive mode and is it fair to assume that the positioning of the pickup is MM-like in tone?

The controls should be Volume, Bass, Treble. Bypassing the preamp to go passive I don't think is possible with an EMG since the pickup itself is also active. Someone may correct me on that, but that's how I've always known EMG's to be. You should only be able to bypass an active preamp if the pickup is passive. If you're seeing the single pickup GGi4 that's currently on Reverb, it's not in a MM position. It's a humbucker in the P-bass position and likely won't sound like a MM, but rather a more of a hotrod P-bass sound. It would need to be closer to the bridge to start picking up that particular growl.

Also, I'm not sure if that bass was the one on display at NAMM in 2019, but I played on one that looked nearly identical and it was SUPERB. It's the one that got me thinking to try and acquire one of his basses.
