I endeavored to thin the herd of excess and sought a 5-string to maintain some flexibility. A Modulus, specifically a TBX, was my ultimate goal, but incredibly rare and expensive.

My ggi5 is a terrific bass. There is nothing about it that I don't like. I really enjoy playing it. However, when I pick up my ggi6 I am transported to that fantastic place where everything is even better. I am grateful that I can own and play a lot of basses but if I could just have one it would be the ggi6. It makes me smile every time I play it. It makes my drummer smile too!

That’s a beautiful bass. My GGi5 is a similar color scheme. It is also the finest instrument I’ve owned. One thing (among many others) that is really cool about G. Gould basses and this club is that, because the production numbers are limited, I feel like I get to know each new bass as it comes out.
Your’s is one I’ve spent time staring at on Reverb for quite some time. I hope it arrives (arrived?) quickly, waiting is the hardest part. Again, welcome to the club!

They are both pretty good but I lean a little more toward the dual Soaps. That bass is a veritable flamethrower.
The Jazzman is cool too but I would need to change strings to have a true apples to apples comparison. I have my preferred lower tension strings on the SS but not the Jazzman and I do hear a difference in the response as well.
PS- There is technically a little more flexibility from the Jazzman. The MM pickup at the bridge can be put in single coil mode by the volume p/p knob so you can have the Jazzman or the straight Jazz thing going on. Fun!
Hey does anyone know what the deal is with the GGj5 necks? Some that I have seen appear to have carbon fiber on the headstock. Was this just decorative or is there a layer of carbon in the neck? And are the necks reinforced with carbon?
Can anyone who has played or owned one tell me how the GGj basses compare to the GGi basses tonally, etc?

I owned an early Gould 5. It had EMG soap bar pu’s and a maple neck with a carbon fiber veneer on the headstock. It sounded very good and played great.
I presently own a ggi5 (and a ggi6). The ggi5 is fantastic. I have owned a lot of basses and nothing suits me better than my Gould basses.
Given a choice I would rather have a ggi5 than the earlier model with the maple neck.

There's a variety of different flavors of the maple/graphite GG basses before I restarted doing the all-graphite basses. I think those that still have them have the most valid opinions, but they should all have the same internal neck structure.
