I've been waiting on the news but so far nothing. Will the new bass be announced at NAMM for sure?

NAMM is a good guess, but G&L can be unpredictable. I was told "In July". Assuming that meant Summer NAMM is, well, assuming.

I don't see any Huge News in that photo.
"L2K with new preamp layout"...am I missing something?

Yes, you're missing several things.

Maybe in hand it adds up to "stunning."

I think it does.

I'd be willing to audition one.

That's all anyone can ask.

I'd still like to see normal string spacing on a 5 banger.

You mean 19mm at the bridge? I can give you a couple unofficial (from me) reasons why it could happen. I could also give you a bunch of reasons why it won't happen, including two really good ones. But let's save the hassle and not go there.

''save the hassle and not go there"
ok then;)

I'm excited to hear the new 2X00; but my interest is sort of limited limited.
I'm open to it being a big enough leap forward sonically to make me get over the string spacing, but I've had enough 2500's to know the string spacing isn't optimal for me.

I don't need anymore 4 strings...

Guys, as you can see, G&L is finally coming out with a variation on the L2000. Many of us have been clamoring for this for years. Blend knob, fully active, midrange control, etc...this is, in my opinion, at least worth looking forward to. Read up on it at bassesbyleo if you want to know more.

Hopefully it will kick butt. I truly hope so. I, for one, can't wait to get my mitts on it! I think the L2000 is the best production bass out there. If it got better...look out!

(Sorry, still don't know how to do the "thumb" thing, it confounds me, but this link shows ALL the pics I took).

Here we go. All you need to do is right-click the image in Photobucket, click properties, highlight and copy the URL, then paste it into the insert image window when you post.

I have to admit that spalted is not my bag but it certainly is interesting to look at.

I'm looking forward to it as well. If BBE is involved with the preamp design it should kick butt.

Paul Gagon, who designed the BMax preamps, did the design here.

Is there a coil tap involved in the new preamp?

No. Coils will be connected in [DEL]parallel[/DEL] series. However, the enterprising and adventurous modder should find short wires in the covers that can be extended to the cavity.
