Yes, the ability to roll your own pickguard is pretty attractive to a lot of folks. For that, Chandler is one of several sources.
I guess my point here is that just because Chandler does the G&L factory pickguards doesn't mean that they have templates for those instruments that don't come with factory-installed pickguards. Even for current instruments for which they make pickguards, if you want to buy one from them be prepared with a tracing. They're kind of funny that way.

Pickguards?!! I thought we were talking about a redesign of the greatest humbucker known to man and a new preamp that allows full control of the MFD monster.
Here we go. All you need to do is right-click the image in Photobucket, click properties, highlight and copy the URL, then paste it into the insert image window when you post.
I have to admit that spalted is not my bag but it certainly is interesting to look at.

I wanted to post a few pics of my new G&L JB (Other than the in-store sale shot previously posted...). I just received the new pickguard the other day. The PG is for American Fender Jazz Basses, so that explains the truss rod cut-out. The holes lined up exactly, so it is on there. This is a pretty good bass! Wear it with a big thick leather strap - I'm all there! (**sorry about the pics being grainy - I forgot it was on ISO 1600!!)

For some reason or other, I find it rightly amusing that the Fender guard fits, down to the screwholes.

Hopefully I'll get a picture up soon, but over the weekend I installed an EMG BTC Control into my fretted L2500, and I strung it up E-C with some Peavey Cirrus strings. It already had a vol/vol set up with independent series/SC/parallel switching for each pickup.
All I can say is "amazing". One immediate thing I noticed is that there is a lot more sustain and no noticable dead-spots with the Peavey strings. I don't know if it's the string construction or the specific gauges, or what, but the relatively severe dead spots I had are gone.
In series mode, especially, the sound is absolutely beautiful. It's thick, yet crisp and clear. The C-string is anything but "twangy". It cords with tons of clarity, but it still has warmth and depth. The buffering action provided by the EMG preamp is helpful, but having the additional treble control is also really nice. It sounds very "boutique". Again, maybe it's just the E-C stringing, which is more prevalent on boutique basses. Whatever - it's really cool.
One thing is for sure: if the new G&L basses have been tweaked even more with new series-wound pickups and a custom 3-band EQ, they are going to be amazing basses! I really wish they'd do a 6-string with those mods. I'd buy one!
