G&L Club Part 4

I'm starting to think about how/when I'm gonna contact Rocket Music to order my new M2500... Maybe it won't happen, but I'm *this* close. Too cool, and too much exactly what I want in my G&L. They read my mind!
I'd consider ordering through a more local dealer, but I don't think they're up on things. Rocket seems pretty well-connected and up on the current options and pricing and what not.

I hope G&L does a good job informing their dealers. I don't want to walk into the store and ask about the M-2500 and get a blank stare or get "you mean the L-2500."
And...as others have mentioned, their website is pretty atrocious. Somebody needs to step up their online game over there.

I didn't measure it but it felt quite comfortable. Are you more worried about the actual width side to side or the thickness front to back? The front to back is definitely not thin but not unreasonable at all. The width side to side was comfortable for slapping which is my little test for spacing.
I am SO jealous! I'd kill to find a nice used pristine fretted blue burst MIA L-2500 to match my fretless.
As for now, I'll have to live with the natural wood Tribute as my fretted L-2500.

I recently sold the fretted, but the fretless is getting a lot of use. I hope to have an M2500 in the near future, but likely not a burst. Something with Quilt, perhaps?
Anybody have any experience using MFD pickups and a G&L pre on another bass? I'm thinking about swapping the Darkstars out of one of my basses in favor of L2000 pickups and pre. It would be interesting to know how much of the G&L tone can be attributed to the electronics and pickup placement.
I actually made a mahogany P- bass with a pickup from an L1000 in the same position as an L1000. Electronics and pickups play a huge part in the G&L sound. My p sounds so close to many L1000 I have played.
I'd love to take an MFD P/J set and put it in a different body! I know that some people use basswood in their guitar/bass builds but I'd much rather have an ash bodied SB2 - I just can't afford one.
I think it would be great in a tele-style bass. Like a Robert De Leo Schecter style but more Fender-esque.
Other than replacing regular P/J pups with MFD's I don't see doing this, unless it's a custom build.
I guess if I was having a custom bass made I might choose to use MFD humbuckers like in the L2xxx series. 4-string and 5-string models are available from G&L for $120 and $130 each, which is pretty comparable to pickups from other companies. I could see making a custom bass or parts bass where the pickups were farther apart or a MFD P in the neck with a humbucker in the bridge.
What I'd really like to see is a quad-coil MFD humbucker so we could choose single or split-coil options. I'd love to be able to switch from single to humbucking to split!
Finally got my hands on one a vintage G&L. 1982 ash/rosewood L-1000, plenty of finish checking, weighs 8.3 lbs, ohsc.
The necks on these are so sweet, a mix of a wide, thin Fender P and a narrow, chunky Fender J... just right!
I can't wait to go to rehearsal and pull some dub sounds out of this bad boy.
