I gotta say. I do not like the look of the pup with the black pole pieces. I thought it looked cool when I first saw them in an up close photo when the bass was being shown at Bassesbyleo.com. But now it's a turnoff to me. Reminds me of a different bass company. Dean maybe. Yamaha? Thats the idea I suppose. Get the bass to look different from the L2K.

I'd love to hear it too. To compare it to my L2k.

Did you notice how the back looked? Was there a battery compartment?

You know what, I didn't examine the back closely. I do remember it was an 18v preamp so I'm sure there are two batteries squeezed in there somewhere.

I was wondering about that. I thought that the allen key hole would look messy after a few in and outs with the wrench. I thought either that or the metal was black all the way through.

Like Chef says, maybe you could sand it off. I don't know if it was paint or powdercoat though. They were BLACK. I'm torn on that because I do love those menacing silver tops but then again, when you get up close they are still there so it's a stealth thing for those in the know.

Well, hopefully they will have a few of them out there soon and I can test one out for myself. I'd love to A-B it with the L2k as I'm sure every L2k owner would.

The web site is terrible. The newest thing there is the Korina wood bass'. I'm still waiting for them to list the SB1 under the USA bass list.

Not quite... The M2x00 has new pickups that are wound a little less hot, with no switching options; series only. Much as I love my (remaining) L2500, I can't get the kind of treble extension/clarity I'm after - especially in series mode. No matter what I do, it's just not there. I still love it, but... My point of reference is a jazz bass (well, 2 of them) with crystal-clear highs. Very open and airy sounding. I want that open/airy top with the huge bottom of the L2500. I'm hoping the M2500 is just that. I've been waiting for this bass!

That pic above of the CAR M2500 is darn hard to ignore! I just let my fretted L2500 go recently, partly with the thought of potentially picking up one of the new M2500s. CAR/maple?!?! That's tough to not think about!!!

It would be interesting to compare the two. I just know that when I installed an Audere Classic 4-Band pre in an L2500 Tribute I once owned it really opened the tone up. I could boost highs without harshness, I could monkey with two bands of mids, and I could even boost bass without boominess. I could put the pickups in series boosting treble and get the tone you're talking about.

At some point I'm going to put one of these preamps in my current L2KT.

This reminds me about something I wanted to say. I used to own a BABE edition L2K with the single coil option. It sounded so good with the single coil switch on that it rarely left that position. The slap sound of the M2500 with both pickups on full was VERY close to that sound for me. Somehow, the new preamp and rewound pickups split the difference between that L2K single coil sound and a stock L2K twang. I like the L2K twang as it is very distinctive but this new tone was something special to me as well. I hope you all get to try one soon!
