G&L Club Part 4

Yeah, I have run the gambit of EBMM's over the past year and a half. (2) Sterling H's, one with a Nordstrand, (1) Sterling HH, (2) Stingray SR4's H and a Stingray HH. All of my 'Rays have been SLO Specials because I can do more damage on a 1-1/2" nut!! :D

The only 'Ray I kept is the HH because I love black cherry burst and painted to match headstocks on maple boards. I think the double humbucker configuration is the way to go on active basses these days.

After getting my hands on the ASAT and learning the controls, I can see the 'Ray getting traded for an L2000 or another ASAT in rapid fashion. The tone(s) you can get out of an ASAT are pretty ridiculous!!!:bassist:

The Sterling HH handily beats my ASAT... its not close

Sterling can get a tad warmer, has some more tonal variety while the ASAT has tonal variety of a similar sound... if that makes sense to yall

Love both basses though. If I was in purely an original rock band, maybe I would go ASAT as my main bass as I love the tone for rock a bit better. For covers & warm gospel stuff that I'm dong now the Sterling HH is my go to

Depends on what you're looking for

Keep playing around with the G&L. I like it... it continues to sound very edgy. I can get it warmer in series with maxed out EQ bass up treble cut. This is a serious bass for rock n roll but I can't get it to mellow enough for church

I'm also getting some random pops, not often. I've tried to create em by shaking the cord no dice. Changing amps, cords & it still pops here & there. Thoughts?

I'll try to see if they appear passive, good call. I'm playing pretty light & it can happen at rest too.

Edit: Dropped off at repair shop for a football plate jack vs a barrel jack. They said that should fix the pop issue if it was that loose. Hopefully

Here's my '89 Asat. Dont know too much more about it as I'm not the original owner! Im estimating the year based on the serial number sequence on the G&L website. Plays beautifully but man is it heavy (estimate about 9lbs+)
If any of you guys more knowledgeable than me knows more about the set up I would love to hear it. The only info I have is straight from the G&L website. I also need to get a bridge tension screw as one is missing. Pics taken with my phone so will try and upload better quality.Thanks.
