G&L Club Part 4

I opened it up from the back & unscrewed it. I was hoping to twist the outside to let it slide through but no dice...

Since I really like the bass & can see myself keeping it forever, like my Sterling HH... I may send it out for a good setup & replace that jack... make it a locking one

I could NOT get it out & i'm pretty all set with trying... plus my last solder job was pretty terrible :)

Well, I bought the football jack plates at GC, I had the Switchcraft jack, and I no longer have that bass (was kinda foolish to let it go, but...). I did buy 2 plates, though, and I'll try to take pics when I get around to the fretless.

Basically, I used a step bit to bore out the existing jack hole to 7/8" (be carefully not to go too large), then I used a 7/8" forstner bit to drill out the rest of the wood into the control cavity. Then I centered the plate on the edge and marked the hole locations for the screws, and pre-drilled those. Wire up the jack from inside, leaving enough wire to put it though the newly-enlarged hole, then install the jack to the plate from inside the hole. Once the jack is secure to the plate, drop it down into the hole and install the screws into their pre-drilled holes.

Took all of 30 minutes, most of which was double checking alignments and thinking about the next steps. Might take me 15 next time.

G&L is moving all instruments that used the deep panel (barrel) jack to the jackplate.

Of course, the old top loaders never had this issue.

They won't be back. Everyone will just have to accept it. :D

...yet, another reason to reissue top-loaders !

What are the chances G&L would ever do a reissue with the control plate - kinda like MusicMan Classics ?

I always preferred the look with the control plates...

Went to GC yesterday & tried a MIA jazz... I'll take the ASAT any day of the week over that bad boy. I did like the Geddy Jazz though, that thing had some serious bite. The MIA Standard jazz was nice but not my speed, glad yall helped me find the ASAT

I may have found tonal Nirvana!

Played a jam/writing session with my fretless L2500 though an ACG/East filter preamp, into an original Acoustic 360. The power section/cab were a Fender BXR 100 combo (single 15", Fender preamp bypassed).

I really like the VT Bass with my G&L, but I'd replace it in a heartbeat with a 360 clone in a similar form factor!

Oh yeah! Believe me, I'm quite familiar with the Viva Analog pedal and it's price! I remember some of the early versions years ago - well before I really knew what a *real* 360 was.

The hardest part of cloning one myself is the custom Cinemag inductor for the midrange control. The VA guy has those in his Pro and Lite versions, but does not provide them for the DIY kit. My trio's drummer was *given* the 360 (he has a 370 at home and knew that Jaco used a 360, so he knew what it was) and he won't pass it on to me to keep, but he may let me do some reverse engineering. And he'll let me use it when we work at his drum shop. Of course, the schematics are available on the VA site, too.

That thing is one heck of a cool preamp!

I can't get enough of the ASAT, what a bass man. What a funk machine, never get lost in the mix, thats for sure. VERY different. Love series vs parallel modes

Just so surprised by this bass, nobody talks about G&L that much. Its going to get a new barrel jack installed by Mouradian guitars for low money... then its ready for prime time

Okay guys I'm hooked. I bought a used L2000 tribute off of ebay and I absolutely love it. What I love is that not only does it have great tonal character, and also it seems to be VERY even across the fretboard. My other main bass is a Lakland DJ5, and when recording it some notes explode with low end and others not as much. I think the L2000 is going to be awesome to record with, I can't wait!

Now I want an SB2...... It has begun!

I sold my last G&L a few days ago.
So in case you are supposed to turn in numbers,
mine is/was #416
I might end up with another G&L bass in the future.
They make awesome basses for sure.
