I just received this SB2 1983 bass from TB guy. Im so impressed. This is my second G&L after L1000 1982. I love wunkay, but this bass is something special.
It is so easy to play it, this SB2 is a total awesomeness. I just cannot believe it. This was called School Bass, but it looks like the best bass I've ever had, and I have had lot of them already.

They will come down the pipe eventually. I bet the Indonesian plant can produce faster than the USA plant.
Wow, that GTB M2K has a mahogany body...I wish they'd do a USA L2K in that wood/finish combo, I'd be sold.

It seems like the tributes often lead/exceed the US basses for variety, discounting custom options. Carved tops have never been offered on US series basses.
Indonesia is probably set up to run a lot leaner, meaning they can produce a greater variety of basses at lower cost. The US factory is running higher labor, holding costs, etc, so more variety hurts via the required setup, training, inventory, etc costs incurred.

My latest thing - adding some Armstrong lipstick pickups to my US JB2 along with series/parallel on a push/pull pot. They look really cool (IMO) but are just split-coil humbucking Js underneath. Hotter than the OEM pickups but still with jazz bite - I'm much happier with it with these pickups.

Agreed, Chef! Craigb, that is one tastefully tasty looking bass you've got there. I've been eyeing up those lipstick pickups for my Epi RockBass for some time (scoff all you want, but I still love the thing), but I was worried they might be a little too much aesthetically. No longer a concern.
