Boom is a good description of the tone. Like a bass bomb! Two tone over alder bod with flame maple cap, #5 satin neck. Took me a little while too figure out how to dial in the tone and mix with the right amount of gain and master vol on my walkabout combo. Wonder how it will work with my Sunn 2000s?
Funny thing I noticed about the SB1 controls. When the volume is dimed and the tone is rolled all the way back, it sounds like you would expect with no high end. Then if I ease back the vol even a little a whole bunch of tone comes back into the signal. Is this tone leap normal? Seems like the controls work best in an inverse relation to each other. ie volume mostly up with tone back down mostly or Volume backed a ways off paired with higher amounts of tone. So far I notice lowering the pickup helps balance output and acheive smoother attack. Also scored some TI superalloys and will have some extra shielding done as perscribed at the basses by leo site.

Nice SB-1 up there. That's only the second SB I've seen with a maple top. Also a fan of the # 5 maple necks, I think it adds a little extra beef to the sound.
I'm so glad G&L is making the SB-1 again but they've forgotten how to wire it up! I bought two new SB-1s in recent years and they both had the controls wired wrong. On mine, I resoldered the yellow pickup lead from the center lug of the volume pot to the outer lug that's NOT grounded, and that fixed it so the tone control works like a normal P bass.

That M-2500 I've been dreaming about since I first heard rumors of them last year looks GREAT - better than I expected. Do I sense a custom M-2500 in my future?

Chris Maresh with Monte Montgomery. I was roommates with a drummer in Austin who was personal friends with these guys. We went to see them at Saxon Pub shortly after this. That L2500 through a Trace Elliot/Bag End rig didn't help my G&L GAS at all...

I'm plotting my entry to the M-Series now. Thinking probably a fretless. Really wishing I could talk G&L into an M-1505.
I've spent a little time with an M-2500 at my local dealer and I am REALLY impressed with it. The 2 things holding me back are 1) both L2500's I've had have been a 2 or 3 tone burst and the M2500 is the same (I want something else), and 2) I prefer wider spacing on a fretted and would rather have a fretless M2500.
I'm loving my late 90s L2500. Seriously awesome and everything I've wanted in an electric bass.
I was looking at the M series basses but I really wanted a natural L2500. I played a buddy's Indo L2500 Tribute for a number of months and decide to get an American one of my own. Thanks to TB, I found a used one a few weeks ago and here we are together. The M series basses are seriously sexy basses. I haven't had a chance to play one but G&L stuff is always great.
This bass is ready for some space funk.

It's great to see the passive models making a comeback. I regret not being able to jump on the BABP Wunkay edition, a few years ago, but maybe another one will come along, soon. Meanwhile, my herd will see the addition of another new USA JB-2, soon.
so i messed up my preamp, some months now.
i orded a new preamp,and get one, but i was acturly orded new electronic and preamp, ready to wire the pu´s. so got only the preamp, and i try to wire them, but it messed up now.
so my question is, will you buy new pickup from other company, and is someone have change the pu´s witch do youuse?, or will you order brand new pickups and preamp and try again and 50-50 make it good or bad
i really like the mfd pickups, but i dont mind to try some thing else
