G&L Club Part 5

The G&L control cavity looks like a bowl of spaghetti, easy to mess things up in there. Is there a guitar tech you can take it to up there in Greenland?

No clue what it might cost (:eek:), but if you like the MFD's, then maybe it's worth it to ship the bass to a repair center? Might be cheaper than buying different pickups?

having sold the last of my current G&L's I have several of the older style, non-racing stripe gig bags f/s in accessories.

Another club heads up:
many years ago now, I came across a supplier of new old stock control knobs for the early G&L's.
Since I don't have any early G&L's any more, I don't need them.
If your old knobs have the chrome flaking off, this is your one and only shot at new replacements, as the source is long gone now.
Look for them in accessories, or pm me for details.

Speaking of G&L basses, I found a three-bolt L2K at a pawn shop yesterday for $699/w case. Very nice green finish with grain showing, and figuring in the maple fingerboard. I tried it out, and the neck pickup doesn't work in parallel. Works fine in series. Wiring issue? Friend of mine has an oddball Fender 5 string he's going to offer as trade.

Also, the back of the headstock is signed by Nokie Edwards...

I feel like the L-1500 is a bit underrepresented here, so here's my bands new music video with me banging away shamelessly at my main bass.



This particular song has a somewhat different bass tone from what I usually use, to fit the 'semi-slap' technique I use in the main riff and verse. You would be surprised at how versatile a one-pickup bass can be, I use the L-1500 for any genre and usually choose it over my L-2500.

Oh, band if you like the music, please feel free to 'like' it on facebook and youtube.:)

Yeah, probably a wiring issue. I bought an old L2K that needing some wiring fixups, and after doing those, it's an awesome bass. I didn't get it for $699 either ...

If the pickup works in series mode, then it seems unlikely there's any problem with the wires inside the pickup (which would be harder to deal with). Most likely, it's the parallel/series selector switch or one of the wires around that, which should be pretty straightforward do deal with. One of those "while you're at it you can install the K mod" things.

Not my bag musically, but I really like the tone and playing. Tight and clear. Very nice.

Considering I paid $450 for my USA L2K, $699 is way high considering the condition. I might offer $400. (Or maybe he'll trade my friend for his Fender 5.) It's a beautiful bass.

Is it a US model?

With broken wiring, seems fair to ask for a good price cut ... who knows if there's something else. $400 would be sweet.

Nope.
All done.
It actually felt good to send them off to folks who will use them and appreciate them.
The MFD thing, even the K-mod version, just isn't "single coil enough for me," now that I'm a sanctified single coil J bass guy.

However, you can take some heart, perhaps, in the fact that I do have two P-basses loaded with G&L MFD's.

Someday, maybe an M-Series 2500; though the string spacing bothers me, and the fact they they left the coil taps out was just a blatant oversight.
Maybe a G&L P bass again someday, but, I've not much use for 4 strings overall either, and G&L don't do one of those, so........

I'm here, I've been a G&L user since 1980.
Perhaps, someday, they'll make something that suits me again.
