...which is kind of unfortunate. A lot of people like to talk about how the Tukay is a chameleon and I feel like that's half-true. It gets you a rough approximation of a lot of different tones but it's not really close enough to be a legit imitation or substitute. The Tukay sounds awesome, but it's very much its own animal.
I would totally echo this. It can do a lot of different things, but I don't spend time trying to make it sound like anything other than what it is.
With one exception: a friend has a mahogany 1k that just has the magic. So sometimes I try to make my ash 2k sound like that.
I just got a new Tribute JB in Sunburst with maple neck. I'll post pics later. I love it. Everything about it is great except the weight. The Tribute is a lot heavier with it's Swamp Ash body than MIM Fenders with Alder bodies. I wish G&L made the JB Tribute in Fretless. A Jazz Bass fretless is next on my list... torn between the Squire Classic Vibe 60's fretless or the Fender Player Fretless, Pau Ferro.

I have a two 70's J basses in Alder, a JB2w Tribute in Ash and a JB in Empress.
I'm not a tone wood believer either and believe the strings make a bigger difference.
One of the J's is possessed and 9+ lbs. The Jb Empress is partially possessed and weighs 7.5 lbs. They both sound great and are very similar.
