Don't give up on the neck. I recently picked up an El-Toro too. Turns out neck also had a ski jump (came with a second neck so that's on for now).

Neck is at warpedneck.com getting treated. Talked to the tech and he seems confident he can fix it.

Yep. I love the sound of it. Very different from my L2000 and SB-2.

I also have an L-2k and an SB-2 to compare, looking forward to the shootout. The bull is playable and the electronics are in really good shape, so I'll just have to see if the neck will take a setup once it arrives.

So I just bought an El Toro for a real steal, but the neck is not original and is apparently not in wonderful shape. Weirdly, it looks like it a reverse or lefty Interceptor neck. Do you guys think I can put any 3 bolt G&L neck on it, or will I need to be on the hunt for an El Toro neck (which I will never find lol). Related question: who wants to sell me a 3-bolt neck?

The Bull looks like it's a 21 fret neck. I don't think all 3-bolt G&L necks are 21 frets--the JB, for example--so take that into consideration. It will also obviously have to be a Fullerton neck. I don't even know if there were 3-bolt Tributes, but just sayin'... And if you find one, keep in mind that it will be an old neck, just like yours, so it could have the same problems. If it really needs a new neck, I'd talk to Memo Romero at G&L and get a quote on having them make you one. You'll have to send the bass to them, so you'll be without it for a while, but when they send it back you'll have a brand new neck expertly set up. And you can have it built to your specs. I had that done with my '07 SB-2, and it's really cherry.

Its not actually called OMG mode. have you ever heard boost mode? Its not all its made out to be. I know people here rave about it, but you really should hear it for yourself before you decide to change your current setup

This is helpful info, but I'm left with a question: on my very early L-1000, I'm pretty sure the documentation called what's now called OMG, "single-coil with bass boost". Series was never mentioned. Did the wiring scheme change along the way, or was the position mis-labeled at the outset? …or is my memory just wrong?

I really like the sound of the omg mode on my l1k with the GL factory alnico hb pickup.
It does help that the circuit has a variable bass pot, so i can dial back the bass a hair.

So does that mean that "Series with bass boost" is a different (and more modern) wiring scheme, and not just a different label? Or is it a L-2000-only thing only since that single coil setting includes both pickups? Sorry if this has all been hashed out before.

SCWBB was the OG term. The OMG moniker came from L1K players when you flipped the switch on. No idea on the Fallout but on a 1K it is a massive change. A cap drains the highs off one of the coils in series and leaves the highs from the other giving a single coilish articulation but all the lows from both coils gets through "boosting" the bass

I have a JB2 that is a few years old that weighs 8lbs. 3 ounces.
Sweetwater finally has some tributes in stock and I can see I'm done with these at least for awhile.
For the most part, this batch averages 10 lbs.
