They say a rainbow has every color of the universe in it. The SB-2 has every bass sound you'll ever need in the universe. Or it could be just light refraction...

I got the photo just in time, it was only there for about 5 minutes.

I found this line from "Time" and I thought it was very apt for this bass:

Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells

I've been a pretty faithful P bass player the past few years. But the SB2 just grabbed me with it's punch and articulation- the sound is magic.

Thanks, I haven't taken in account that my basses came from different eras. That could be part of the difference, of course. However, I feel the difference is there in passive mode, and my late 90's L2000 definitely had series, and no single coil with bass boost setting.
I still would be grateful if people could chime in who can directly compare the tone of an L2000 with that of an L2500. Could it be those pickups just differ slightly? And what would that mean for the new 750 pickups?

I had an L2000 from 2018 and currently own a late 90s L2500. I hear the differences you are describing. The new L2k was more aggressive in the mids/upper mids. Pickup windings may differ between then and now as well but I dont have data on that point.

So what Im trying to say is that I think the era of build is probably the primary factor for a variety of reasons. Rather than 4 vs the 5.

I own 4 different L2000.

To me, when they have the same strings and the same pickup heights, they basically sound the same, especially in a loud band.

They don't all FEEL the same, though.

I picked up a beautiful Kiloton 5 from the TB classifieds with a light empress body and really liked how it played. It had a really solid tone with good definition but I also wanted some rounder and warmer tones that the single MFD pickup didn't provide for my taste, so I ordered a Nordstrand Big Rig with custom spacing to fit in the P-bass sweet spot. I had the new pickup mounted along with a stacked volume pot to avoid drilling more holes in the control plate. The wiring diagram is shown in this cross post #19:

I thought the Big Rig might not have the output to keep up with the MFD but with the Big Rig wired series and the MFD in parallel or single coil their outputs and tone blend match very well. I love what the new pickup adds to this bass. Either pickup can be soloed but for me the sweet spot is with them blended with one or the other dialed back about 1/8 turn.

Here is a play along sample through my 15" cab with Tractrix horn recorded with a Zoom H4n of my G&L Kiloton 5 through the Berg Forte HP with bass bumped, mids cut slightly, and treble flat. The Big Rig pickup in the P-bass position fattens the tone up.

That cherryburst one, however WAS gooey. Smelled like weed. Seemed like it had been on a stand in the corner of the room for two decades. That one I literally stripped it all down to the screws and cleaned that stuff off.

Like my Lynx, foul, funky and all kinds of nazzzztee. Had a dead roach under one of the tuners.

Anyone here have some firsthand experience with G&L's whiskey finish? Is it more of a pure brown or does it have a little bit of a reddish hue to it? Pictures are always welcome.

it's definitely got some red.
I owned a whiskey tribute kiloton for a minute or so in 2019.

I was thinking earlier today that the Tribute SB-2 in Sonic Blue looks quite different to USA made basses and guitars in Sonic Blue, has a real tinge of green to it. Are the rest of the Tribute colours closer to the USA equivalent?

@TDR1138 from the skinny string side, looks very similar, if maybe not quite as transparent, as Irish Ale to me.
