Oh, and side note to that, if I'm remembering the circuit correctly, the treble uses a 1M reverse log pot (same as the bass cut on a G&L L-series), so it's a hard value to source on its own. Good luck finding that on a stack!

Listening to demos of the Kiloton, I'm always struck by the rich undertow to the tone. Eg in series there's a rich tightly focused sound, but also something dark, almost separate, way underneath.

I've played one Kilo through an amp a few years back. It was a store owner's personal bass, and I played it through an Ampeg combo. I thought it sounded great for the 10 minutes or so that I spent with it. Then I plugged something else in and realized the amp was set to have the bass cranked to about 3:00 and the mids down to about 10:00. The Jazz bass I plugged in sounded like a muffled, boomy mess with the settings that made the Kilo sound good. The extreme amp settings required to make it sound good just aren't something I'd want to deal with on a regular basis.

As I mentioned before, I had a L-1500 for a while. To me, it had a nasal midrange that somewhat dominated the tone. The low end was there, but the mid was a little too present so it seemed like the bottom was lacking. That said, when I had it, I was playing for a church and it was the sound guy's favorite bass of mine. So whatever he did with it, he liked what it was putting out.

I bought a Kiloton Tribute during lockdown, it has taken over the #1 spot from my L-2000.

I've played a few low volume rehearsals with it and don't recall having to adjust my amp settings much but have a sub gig in 10 days time so will know better after that how it performs.

All my basses wear LaBella low tension flats.

pretty much the same for me, although I put TIs on my Big Blue Chonks bass, might as well blow the budget all the way.

My L-2000 has Labella LTFs on it. They're nice.

I've got a set of TIs in a drawer that I'd love to try on it, though, but they were originally on a Fender and strung through the body, so I'm not sure what that would do to the string where the bend from the witness point currently is. Hence why they're sitting in the drawer (I've sold all my string-thru Fenders).

Didn't seem to be an issue with the TIs, other than limiting myself to only using them on a couple of Fenders. They're about 3 years old and were on two different US Fenders in that time, until I sold the basses.

In hindsight, I wouldn't have done it string thru just to not limit my options swapping strings between basses.

I bought a used Fullerton Kiloton a couple years ago. I'd been GASsing for one and particularly wanted a Tribute Irish Ale, but few if any seemed to be available at the time. Then this used Fullerton turned up for sale. In the time I've had it, I've played it through a couple different preamps directly into our sound system, which has a pair of subs. I love the sound just the way it is and don't really have to adjust the preamp settings from my other basses. The versatility of that 1-pickup bass continually amazes me. Of course, everybody's equipment and playing environment differs. I own 4 different G&L basses--2 Tributes and 2 Fullertons. I've modded 3 of them, but not the Kiloton. I love it just the way it is. Of course, I firmly support everyone's right to do with their instrument as they see fit.

While I do love them, I like a variety of different string types for different basses. Sometimes it takes me a lot of experimentation to match strings to any bass. I bought a 2nd set of the LLTFs, am really wanting to hear how they sound/play on one of my Rickenbackers. (Maybe even the one currently wearing Optima RB flats.)

Yes I was also GASsing for the Irish Ale finish. One popped up on Ebay in the middle of the pandemic when I'd lost the desire to play so let it slip by.

When things were easing a bit we had a couple of gig enquiries come in and shortly after a white one came up so I grabbed it. The picture doesn't do it justice but it's the best I have.

I've used former through-body flats through bridge many times, including TI's. Never had a problem.

I can't imagine wanting to replace the oem pickups in my US JB2. They are so clear and uncolored in the treble frequencies, with a deep,warm bass sound, and of course that lovely mid scoop
with both pickups all the way up.

My Fullerton 2020 JB2 pups sounds just OK to me. If anything too much scoop and not enough low midrange.
They are not all that warm to me nor do they growl like my 72' J bass (which can also warm when needed).
I have Model J's in another bass and while I like them, they just don't sound enough like a J bass (too me).
I'm thinking I might go to SD SJB-1

I'm going to post my 2014 L2500 in Blackburst with a Maple neck in the classifieds beginning of next week if any one is interested. Hardshell case and paperwork. I've had it 5 years and gigged with it quite a bit but for the last year it's just been sitting in its case and like so many others it really should be played. In really good shape, same as when I got it. Has a couple small marks but nothing bad.

Really Love that color. Hard to tell from the photos, but I believe it's a metallic.
Edit-duh,it's listed as one.
I am looking, but prefer a rosewood fretboard.

When I was having an obsessive few days finding photos of the metallic finishes, I noticed that Tangerine Metallic frequently looked awful. Here's a decent one of it. This company's photos are typically a fair bit lighter / brighter than everyone else's, so .....

And Upfronts are usually on the dark side. Presumably the truth lies somewhere between these two

Agreed about somewhere between two extremes.
Some of that is due to the background, the lighting, and the white balance.
I think the top one is over lit and bottom under lit.
