G&L Club Part 7

Got the JB-2 today, off brown truck, thought seller was shipping FedEx? No problem arrived in good shape. I think this more Cherry Burst, than Honey Burst? Talked to Memo at G&L,and said the serial number shows May 2006 date it was made. Got to get use to two volume controls though. Putting new set strings 45-100 gauge,D'Addario's round wound

on tomorrow. Might end up having to replace the barrel jack, little loose fitting. Love the body binding on the G&L's

The quilted top (which is beautiful, by the way!) kind of makes it hard to tell, but I think the coloring looks like my cherryburst L-2500.

Regardless, it's a pretty bass!

I've bought 3 G&L Custom Shop basses new, none have had shielding. I agree it should be a normal default. I use shielding paint, goes on fast and works well.
I used shielding paint on my new CLF L1000 too. I also had to touch up a couple of solder joints and I was surprised to see a MightyMite split shaft bass control pot in there. Same value as the CTS vol & tone solid shaft pots.

congrats on the new bass! FWIW - FedEx has caused me so many shipping headaches over the years I would always prefer UPS.

Agreed about somewhere between two extremes.
Some of that is due to the background, the lighting, and the white balance.
I think the top one is over lit and bottom under lit.
I found another nice seemingly real photo, which was closer to the underlit Upfront photo than to the bright previous one. Really nice depth to it.....

....but I bet reality will have more liveliness alongside that depth

Considering listing my 2001 special order SB2-T in the classifieds. 8.8 lbs with a quarter sawn neck. I'd keep it but im hooked on my L1K and L1500/Pbass hybrid.
What would be a fair price for my SB2-T?

Fyi- GC has a nice looking 3-tone sunburst US JB2 fretless (although it isn't listed as one) for $899.
I'm tempted, but i think i'm giving up on fretless…..
Inquired about that one when I didn't realize it was fretless. Guy I spoke to mentioned that there was an issue with the truss rod. They never bothered to change the condition from excellent in the listing. Typical GC.

Good to know.
I had been eyeballing that one at one point. I think it sold, came off the site for a short while and then showed back up listed at a different store. That usually means it was returned, which always raises some red flags. I wasn't sure if it was someone having purchased it not knowing it was fretless, or something worse.

It was also ridiculous that they didn't identify it as fretless. Their pictures are so small that if you didn't ask, you wouldn't necessarily know.

I need to add more low end to my USACG/L1500 mutt. I recently purchased this from a TB'r and it's beautiful player, feels like a part of me, but it sounds so blah to me. There's no low end and way to much mids from this 1.3 pre & M2000 pickup. It seems to have way less low end than any of my G&L basses. I read several mod options for this pre, including adding a .001uf /102j cap on the bass control. There is a .001uf cap on the bass pot and a .0022uf cap too. Do i need to remove the .0022uf cap? Or do I need to replace the M2000 pup with an L2000 pup? TIA.

Beautiful bass!
I'm interested in one of these, but would probably want to scrap all the active circuitry,
replacing it with something like what's in the L1k or the Kiloton.

If you haven't already, I recommend you also ask for recommendations at bassesbyleo.com/forum. Many of the guys on that forum are truly G&L experts (though some are also on this forum, like me). Personally I love both this forum and that one.

Okay, what weighs 8 3/4lbs, is pink and white on the outside, and pure gold on the inside?

This!...

Since I sold my "forever keeper" SB-1 a couple weeks ago (it's been reunited with it's original owner who made a very generous offer I couldn't refuse...thanks, Henry!), I thought this one might be a nice replacement. It's just like new and is such a rarely seen finish, I couldn't resist. Stringing it up today with some Chromes. I love my other Pbasses, they're special, but there is no substitute for an SB-1 to complete the Pbass herd.

Pearl pickguards aren't my jam, so I've placed an order for a black guard. Pink and black...two-tone goodness 1950's style!
