G&L Club Part 7

Beautiful bass!
I'm interested in one of these, but would probably want to scrap all the active circuitry,
replacing it with something like what's in the L1k or the Kiloton.
Ya know, that's not a bad idea.....I do need another passive bass. I just may check in with Kelling Sound and have him make me a harness.

Okay, what weighs 8 3/4lbs, is pink and white on the outside, and pure gold on the inside?

Since I sold my "forever keeper" SB-1 a couple weeks ago (it's been reunited with it's original owner who made a very generous offer I couldn't refuse...thanks, Henry!), I thought this one might be a nice replacement. It's just like new and is such a rarely seen finish, I couldn't resist. Stringing it up today with some Chromes. I love my other Pbasses, they're special, but there is no substitute for an SB-1 to complete the Pbass herd.

Pearl pickguards aren't my jam, so I've placed an order for a black guard. Pink and black...two-tone goodness 1950's style!

Pearl P/G generally dont get it for me either- But that combination looks nice! I've also seen a few Pearl White paint finishes with the ivoroid white P/G that look really good.

Got the JB-2 today, off brown truck, thought seller was shipping FedEx? No problem arrived in good shape. I think this more Cherry Burst, than Honey Burst?

Mucho quiltyness...nice one! You don't see many tops like that on G&L's. IICR, when that bass was built G&L offered 3 levels of figured maple tops, ranging in price from $250-$500 as an upgrade. Yours looks like a top-tier option to me. The binding always looks great. Agree that it looks like Cherryburst. Grats!

Thanks, noticed one just like this on G&L website family that it was an endorser model? Don't know unless you knew the serial number of the bass he is playing in the photo?

Considering listing my 2001 special order SB2-T in the classifieds. 8.8 lbs with a quarter sawn neck. I'd keep it but im hooked on my L1K and L1500/Pbass hybrid.
What would be a fair price for my SB2-T?View attachment 4447890
Can't tell you what to do, but the SB-2 seems like it covers a much different tonal range than an L1000. Never heard an L1500 so I can't comment on that.

All depends what you like. Many seem to want to tone down the SB-2. For me, I've switched to DR high beams for an insane growl (I also have a tone pot so I can dial it out).

BTW, agree with others on price (1200-1400) and it's a great looking bass.

That Kilo is sah-weet! And I don't even like tort.

The Fullerton Deluxe models, though, don't seem like all that much of a bargain to me. I mean, optioned out, they're not much different than the option order basses and you only get a gig bag. I was pricing out SB-1s a and SB-2s lately and, other than the build wait time, just didn't see too much value upside with the FD models. Back when they had a Fullerton Standard that was around $1k with a bag and the Deluxes were about $1200 with a case, it made more sense. But $1700 with a bag… nah.

In 2006, I had ordered a semi-hollow ASAT bass that came with a defective neck. Then for a total of 3 defective necks and 1 whole new bass, I gave up on G&L. The two things I really loved about G&L are their beautiful finishes, really wonderful colors! And the MFD Bass Humbucker. Still weary of G&L necks, I had G&L pickups put into this hollowbody running through an onboard Sadowsky preamp, look out! :bassist:
