Hello. I'm thinking about getting a new G&L. With fingerboard binding.
Any one had one from G&L? Was it well done? Does it feel different than the rest of the neck, to the touch?

Anyone like chromes on their L-2000? I was given a set, my l-2000 currently has steel lo-riders. They sound OK, but admittedly I am 70/30 flats/round person. I am tempted to try it.
Do it, they sound great!
I've used Chromes and LaBellas on my '89, and I had Fender 9050s (pretty similar to Chromes) on an '00. And Chromes on a L-1500. And GHS flats on a L-1000. Love flats on the Ls.

I have four G&L 's . All have the same neck . Two are Binded . White on Rosewood , Black on maple . Rolled edge on rosewood and Rolled edge on Maple . The binding is very comfortable ( IMO ) . And the Rolled edges are super comfortable. Pics if you want em .

Thanks for you input, I very much appreciate it. Do I understand, then, that the fingerboard binding is under the glossy or satin finish of the neck? Or it is over? Can you actually feel the binding when you play? Sorry for all these questions, I've just never felt or seen a bound neck in person.

I LOVE Chromes on my L-2500! They have more high mids and highs than a typical flat (and I think an L needs them to sound like an L) but it tames those high mids and highs just the right amount for me so they aren't harsh. I also love a stiff feeling strings, which they are.
The other string I loved on it were Lo Riders, but specifically the nickel Lo Riders (which are my favorite strings overall). The steels are quite a bit brighter sounding than the nickels and thanks why I prefer the nickels. Also, I find the tension of Chromes to be comparable to Lo Riders, maybe even a little stiffer feeling, so maybe that helps you determine if you might like the feel of Chromes.
FWIW, I currently have GHS Precision Flats on my L-2500. They don't sound bad on it, but I think they're too thuddy for that bass, especially the B string (which wouldn't be an issue for you on an L-2000
), so I'm close to deciding to go back to Chromes.

Just a comment regarding my playing experience with Chromes. Since they are a stiffer string I am able to set action lower and they actually play easily with a light touch for me. They do feel stiffer when bending notes. As always, YMMV
I put chromes on my lb100 (i think it's required by law,lol).
They sounded really great, much better than the factory d'add roundwounds. I loved the sound,but not the feel/tension so much. I no longer have that bass.
I also put Labella low tension flats on my jb2, but that's an entirely different sound and feel to Chromes.

Yeah, MFDs love chromes, and I had a set on my L2k for a year maybe. Now I have them on one of my SB-2s
Ok, just put the set of.100 Chromes. I'll give it a couple of months. Tension isn't that bad. My previous experiences with Chromes were underwhelming, but that was a with a low wind pickup jazz bass.
I had Chromes on my SB-2 and liked them alot until the E string went from thumpy to thuddy. It didn't balance well with the rest of the strings.
I've got some well worn LaBella 760FL DTF on one L-2000 and they have been great, all strings well balanced in sound and feel. I've got DR Legend flats on my '81 L-2000E and like them quite a bit too.

I have a set of Rotosound RS77LD flats on my Tribute JB-2 and a set of Ernie Ball Slinky flats on my Tribute LB-100. Both sound quite good, and they've been on a while. I like the slightly brighter bite of the Ernie Balls best as a personal preference. These are more budget friendly sets of flats and are seldom talked about, but I believe they're worth trying.
OMG yes. I've never played such a stiff string. If you want flats, I think TIs are the way to. Beautiful feel and to me they had more mid presence than Chromes.
With 2 MFDs, assuming knob controls remain the same, what does the switching do?
The mini-toggle is the pickup selector switch. The tone knob has a push/pull series/parallel switch (no single coil option).

The Tribby on the right was a deal from the G&L store, and the Kiloton on the left is the first lefty G&L Custom Shop bass, courtesy of @bonin in the boneyard .
It just so happened that our aesthetic tastes matched up on this one.
