Just curious as to what you know that contradicts the specs listed on G&L's website. Not busting your chops, would love to know you're right as I'm interested in an LB100 and am wary of the 1.75" width.

Just curious as to what you know that contradicts the specs listed on G&L's website. Not busting your chops, would love to know you're right as I'm interested in an LB100 and am wary of the 1.75" width.
Lets welcome some more confusion...G&L definitely lists the nut width on a Tribby LB-100 as 1.75". The ones they show are the new ones, their "2022 models", the emerald blue metallic and the white with a maple fretboard among them, so I'm assuming they updated the specs page as well, perhaps a dangerous assumption knowing G&L. Musicians Friend lists the nut width as 1.75" on their old stock and do not list a nut width on their new stock. Sweetwater lists the nut width on their old stock and new stock alike as 1.625". So now that all is plain as mud, I went to my studio and measured mine (ser.# indicates it's a 2019). It comes in precisely between the two at 1 9/16". Since we're not building a space ship here, I suggest to each his own. In other words, take your pick and you're right! BTW, the finish on the neck of my LB-100 is clear gloss, but the specs on the new ones according to G&L says "satin." Also, Sweetwater lists the pickup on the new ones as a Cort and on the old ones as a G&L.
Bought my 1st G&L bass 4 months ago….guess I'm hooked now. My latest acquisition is an '18 JB. 7lbs and sounds amazing with Fender pure jazz '74 pups and a Kelling Sound harness; couldn't be happier. Bought the L1000 3 weeks ago…..something about alder bodies and maple necks. The USACG pbass with L2000 electronics is something different, love playing this 8lb plain jane'r. Got the L2000 tribute and the SB2-T up for sale, both under 9lbs.

That is so weird. I only checked one of the new colors and the older stock they had listed (the natural with a maple neck). I'm certain G&L isn't ordering different spec necks on different colors, so who knows who messed up. On their website, G&L just lists a blanket list of specs for their new LB-100s, and it says 1.75". However, keep in mind they're made by Cort, who will probably assemble any parts that are available. I remember they built a run of Turquoise Mist JBs with 21 fret necks instead of 20 fret necks, so they couldn't be properly intonated. Before I knew better, I bought one of those from GC online and promptly sent it back.

Well, I have one that I bought new in 2020 and it is 1 5/8" (basswood body, white w/black guard).
It was my very first bass (long time guitar player, decided to pick it up during the pandemic for recording, then got seriously bitten by the bass bug). After doing enough research to decide that I wanted a P bass, I also decided to start with the narrower nut to be safe, not knowing how I would do with the wider one, so that was a requirement for anything I was looking at.
All the specs that I looked at anywhere the LB-100's were on sale at that time listed them as 1.625" and 9.5" radius.
I'm not sure if there has been any actual change to the specs this year or if there is some glitch going on, after seeing what others posted. I guess I would just confirm it with the seller before purchasing.

All my G&Ls have different necks. My SB-2 has the 1.5 nut and my L2K the 1 3/4. I can't say the feel is drastically different. I actually prefer a wider nut if I'm playing in the first 5 frets a lot. Less cramped. But I mostly switch between my basses for the different sounds they make.
Maybe if I was someone who could play super fast with my left hand I'd notice it more?
It just dawned on me (duh!!) that perhaps one thing contributing to all these different measurements is measurement technique. When I measure a nut, I measure from the outside of the the nut itself from one end to the other. However, probably a better way to measure would be from the outside edge of the E (or B) string to the outside edge of the G (or C) string at the nut. Perhaps even the folks measuring this at G&L or Sweetwater or wherever also use different techniques, which would make for different measurements depending on who was measuring that day. How do you measure? Has anyone been told or taught what has been represented as the correct way?

The JB, SB-2, ASAT Bass, ASAT Bass Semi-Hollow and Kiloton all sport the 1.5" nut by default. That said, most of the USA Option Order 4-string models can be ordered with any of their 4-string neck profiles for a $72 MSRP upcharge. So you're not necessarily limited to the default neck profile for a given model.

I still have a question I haven't gotten answered: When measuring the neck width at the nut, do you measure at the outside edges of the nut itself or to the outside edges of the outer strings?
You would love the SB2. I have one with the tone control (SB2-T). I constantly get compliments on the tone and it is an awesome bass to play.
Yeah, it's literally the width of the nut itself, not how much space the strings cover.
