I've noticed the honkiness. It's not horrible, but it is there. I've noticed it on multiple basses, so I'm inclined to say that's normal.

The static-filled click, however, should not be. I'd hit the pot with some contact cleaner.

I agree with this. Static click is not normal. In my experience the treble control doesn't roll off much through most of its range, then suddenly it gets very honky/middy at the end. It's due to the taper of the pot as well as the strong resonant peak of the RC circuit.

Dont reject the honk outright though! That midrange provides incredible punch. I actually really like it especially in rare instances where Im phoning in a Jaco vibe.

I just swapped a set of low tension labella flats for ghs pressurewounds on my jb2.
They sound and feel so fantastic, I'm thinking of putting them on my L1k, too.

I prefer round wounds for live playing myself. Check out Elixir Nanowebs. They're expensive, but they last as long as most flatwounds. But be forewarned...it's a good idea to do a very light sanding with a fine grit sandpaper on the strings where they cross over the bridge. Otherwise there's a possibility that the coating, as microscopic as it is, will prevent the strings from grounding properly at that point. You could try it first without sanding if you want. If there's a ground issue, just loosen the strings far enough to do a little sanding.

I have not played an L1000 but the MFDs on my L2500 and L5000 work well with TI Jazz flats. The flats take just enough of the MFD edge off to make full use of the preamp settings. That may sound odd, but prior to the TIs, I typically kept treble/tone knob rolled off. With the flats I can make full use of the treble/tone controls because I like the sound at all settings.

I recently installed a used set of EB Cobalt flats for that '70s vibe. Very comfy string to play on.

I have 2 G&L's with MFD pickups. Both have DR Legend flats for much the same reason as @ahadl2500 referenced.

Tried GHS Pressure Wounds on my SB-2 . They Didn't quite do it for me. Just put some Ken Smith Compressors on it .044-.102). These sound great and minimal finger/string noise. Love em!

And anyone know the nut width on these things? The product web page doesn't mention this. Always found the 1.75" on the standard L2500 narrower than I like.

Lovely bass, and absolutely a big chonking piece of equipment.

Nut width is 1.775. I wouldn't want it any larger - unless you have giant mitts, you won't be doing a lot of wrapping your thumb around the neck.

I tried some GHS Pressurewounds on my SB-2. While I liked them on another bass , Not so much here. More finger/string noise than the D'Addario's that came stock. I then tried a new set of Ken Smith Compressors .044-.102's. I am liking these. Less finger noise, great feel (smoother than GHS) and very nice tone. That wasn't expected after trying TI Jazz Flats (tone a bit dull sounding) and the GHS (finger noise and tone not quite as good). These are really nice! Now we'll see how they do on Longevity.

Me too. I go for maximum growl and have been recently using DR hi beams. I like the round core round wounds because they're more flexible.
