I've noticed the honkiness. It's not horrible, but it is there. I've noticed it on multiple basses, so I'm inclined to say that's normal.
The static-filled click, however, should not be. I'd hit the pot with some contact cleaner.
I agree with this. Static click is not normal. In my experience the treble control doesn't roll off much through most of its range, then suddenly it gets very honky/middy at the end. It's due to the taper of the pot as well as the strong resonant peak of the RC circuit.
Dont reject the honk outright though! That midrange provides incredible punch. I actually really like it especially in rare instances where Im phoning in a Jaco vibe.
