I know, I know, Google and the search function are my friends.
Yet here I am at the G&L club to ask any of y'all ig there's a G&L equivalent of a P-bass (or a P/J) that's passive.
I don't wanna mess with a preamp. Also would love it fretless.

LB-100.
Alnico equipped pickup, closer to a "traditional" precision.
SB-1.
MFD equipped. Ceramic pickup.
Big, clear, full.
Located a bit closer to the bridge.
SB-2.
MFD P & J. No tone control.
The J is meant as a "flavour" adder.

I get thrown by all the knobs I always see on the 1000s and wasn't sure what to look for.
To be honest, I feel an L-1000 is a better P than an actual P, TO ME.
It's fully passive.
The controls are volume, treble, bass, coil switch.
The treble is the same as your typical tone control. The bass is cut only.
The coil switch goes between parallel, single coil, and OMG mode, which is series, but with a capacitor running across one coil, sending it's highs to ground.
I will just add that the sb1 and 2 have the smaller contoured bodies that are fantastic feeling.(they share the same body with the Kiloton, which is so far my favorite GL bass I've owned.)
I had one of the LB100 basses, and traded it for an L1k.
I concur with dedpool about the L1k being an even better P bass.
The L1k body is a bit smaller than the lb100, too, which I like.

Also, why, on a P, does no one ever put a J pickup between the P pickup and the neck?
Why always as a bridge pickup?
If you can find one, Fender made a Stuart Hamm signature bass that was JPJ.
Sort of the way ghost peppers are a flavor adder?! Dial in that baby with rounds and it's a searing rock monster.
Holy moly that Stu Hamm is cool but that preamp is more than I wanna ever think about. Love the configuration though.
I'll add SB-1's and SB-2's with the MFD pickup sound much more aggressive than a standard Fender P which can be both good and bad.

I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of my very first G&L— it's a limited edition Blackburst L2K from 2007 and, according to the internetz / search function, it's seen its share of previous owners over the years! Kinda neat finding random photos of it here & there. While I'm waiting for it to get here, maybe some its former wielders will see this & share some stories! Not a whole lot of info online about the BABP runs.
Looking forward to taking some pictures of my own (and of course playing it, lol)
Part of me wonders why it's changed hands so many times over the years. I've owned instruments that could be considered by some (including my younger self) to be "too nice" to ding up / actually play. Hoping I don't fall into that mindset with this one. It looks like it's gonna sound GNARLY AF
