They do have a nice voice, though it is different than the LaBellas and GHS that I've used. TIs have punch/thump and are more articulate.

The Fender 9050s are very similar to Chromes, just FYI. There's something subtle about them that I prefer them over Chromes, but I really can't pinpoint exactly what it is.

Thanks, I'm going to give the 9050s a try, since they are also priced well. I liked the Chromes I had (sold the bass though). Perhaps I'll get the TIs another time when I want to spend more on a different tonal range.

I have 9050s on my fretless. I really do like them, I think they're overlooked. I tried several other brands which didn't give me the sound or feel I was looking for from a fretless, but these did. You may very well be pleasantly surprised, even on a fretted bass. Good luck!

Damn that charcoal finish is nice. Need to keep that one in mind for my next bass.

I just picked up this fretless USA JB5. I love these G&L USA basses. Need to pick up a fretted 5 string at some point.

My observations on flats: I wanted higher-tension strings similar to my GHS Bass Boomers, and my research found that Chromes and GHS Precision Flats both fit the bill. However, I also found that Chromes are considered some of the brighter-sounding flats, and P-Flats are some of the more-thumpy sounding. Tried both, and found that to be true. But, as always, YMMV...

Cut back on the mid control of the on-board EQ and you are in serious slap territory. It's made every other bass I own relegated to 2nd 3rd string status. Hope that helps.

Thank you. There are so few demos of M2500 or even M2000 on youtube, so your comment is helpful. My plan is to slim down to just one bass, so I have to choose carefully which is difficult while they are almost nowhere. I found one M2500 in different country, but buying (an instrument) from abroad makes me nervous. I am not in hurry - there should be few G&Ls in stock in my area at the end of summer, but those would be only L2500s (and JB-5), so those are also now an option for me just for the opportunity to try before buy, though I didn't consider that model initially..
While I'm at it - is there some difference for example in built quality/QC between normal and CLF versions? They should have normal black over pine wood, CLF tobacco over okoume or CLF 750 series red over basswood. Any comments on wood choice impact on tone of L2500?

Hi Cube Bass.

I don't know if you are looking to buy new, but I would suggest you buy used here on Talkbass. I would trust strangers on Talkbass to resolve potential problems more than G&L.

Once G&L has your money, it is sometimes "game over" for them. Unfortunately this company has no respect for its customers. Worse yet, it doesn't respect itself enough to respect its own word.

I love their basses, I own several. I will never buy another new bass from them. It's simply too frustrating.

But if you can get a used one that is in great shape…it is an amazing experience. Their products, when they are in good shape, are great. My experience, though, is that you just cant count on that company for help once they have your cash.

Unlike strangers on Talkbass, who generally have more self respect for their word.

and thanks. It don't have to be a new bass. And I agree that buying a cared for instrument can be better deal than new one. For example my MJ-4: bought new, than I discovered some issues with pickups and shielding I didn't notice while in shop. Paid for repair. So now I will (maybe) sell a bass for less than new, in better shape than new..
But the problem is I am from EU and vast majority of the strangers in "Classifieds" are willing only the ship within US. And even if I find some, I'm not sure how much extra I would pay on duties or VAT..

I wish I knew, I'm wondering the same as I am planning a L2500 750 purchase sometime in the next few months. I'm an alder guy but would settle for ash unless someone else can comment on how solid the fundamental is with the other wood choices. never been a fan of Basswood but my experience is very limited with it.

I'm back in the G&L club! Just ordered this bass. Couldn't resist that finish with the matching headstock.

I've had lots of G&L's but this will be my first JB.
