I'll have to go take a listen. Pretty sure I have an unopened set of Chromes kicking around in the parts bin… Most of my basses are wearing various flats. Part of me wants to keep rounds on it for variety, part of me wants flats because that's what I generally play these days. But I'll leave the rounds on for now, I guess. Or maybe I'll pull a set of something off another bass just to see how it sounds with flats. Ugh, so many options. :laugh:

I'm just the opposite...I generally prefer nickel rounds, but I have flats on 2 of my basses. A set of Ernie Ball Slinkys on my Tribute JB-2 and a set of Thomastik Infeld Jazz Flats on an NS Design WAV4 that I have. I also have a set of stainless steel roundwounds of some kind on a very dark sounding Steinberger Spirit XT-25.

Overnight I found the word I was looking for: passion. Middle of the road rounds + astonishingly playable neck + super responsive pickup = an excess of ease. The musical equivalent of sitting on the sofa, flicking through the channels on the TV, with a beer by your side: a nice treat, but no way to live your life.

So I'm going to be exploiting the opportunity. The neck will allow me to play strings that would normally be a bit much for my left hand, and the MFD will balance out how gently my right hand will be plucking. Well, that's the plan....

Just received the L2000 Tribute

flame arched top. Shipped in a nice G&L tolex case,in great condition. Plastic still on the control panel cover,and looks like new other than smudges on the tuner pegs. Need some advice on the toggle switches. I know some of you know what the Kmod is all about. I use to have a printout of the controls,and what each one represented. Thanks,in advance.

Spent quite a while today continuing with the experiment of uptuning the RB45s to F Standard, this time with the SB-1's tone turned down to 0.....

.....and finally felt like I had found this bass's character. Or at least the other, less explored half of it — obviously the superaggressive side is there.

But here was what I was convinced must be waiting to be found — a warm, rich, tight tone, quite different from the guttural P-bass style, with good attack, growl waiting to be brought out, very clearly articulated. Dark, but still gleaming. And all possible with a very light touch. I've high hopes for the La Bellas.

Interestingly, the neck seemed thoroughly unbothered by the extra 20+ lbs of tension the uptuning will have put on. And by unbothered I mean seemingly unmoved.

That's fantastic that you can get a flamed maple top on a Tribute. That's pretty!

Gorgeous bass! Congrats.

Switches are pickup selector (toward the neck), series/parallel (middle) and preamp off/on/on with treble boost (bridge side).

The K mod replaced the 2-position series/parallel with a 3-position switch that also included a single coil option. Could be wired so that either coil of the pickup was used, and generally people would do both outer coils or both inner coils, so there was him canceling when both pickups were on.

I'm not that far from there now. I live in Marlton.

I grew up in PA outside of Philadelphia but, when I was little, my Dad took us to a lot of air shows at NAS Willow Grove in PA (he was stationed there) and at McGuire AFB. I was probably at a few shows while you were there. I was only about 10 at the time, though.

FWIW, the DoD apparently offloaded or consolidated assets years ago and now there's just a single Joint Base Fort Dix / McGuire.
