When I ordered my Built to Order LB-100 from Rocket Music end of April, I was quoted 6/7 months…

…today Greg emailed me to tell me the bass is ready and should be with him next week. Now that's unexpected!
Granted, I didn't go mad options-wise, but still, I'm impressed!

I have a new JB5 that I ordered last year and I received it in 7 months. Love the bass but I was thinking of adding a drop in pre amp. Any suggestions?

I've heard a lot of good things about john east. Personally I'd love a sadowsky preamp, but I think they require routing for a side jack

Running an East JTone in mine. Really flexible and has passive mode (keeping standard jazz bass setup) is a nice feature.

I used Audere Z mode pre in a different bass. It is very flexible but I found myself missing the passive option.

The Audere Pro-Z drop-in that I put in my option order JB-5 is really excellent. Very easy installation and stock pickups. I don't miss passive mode since there's no boost in gain and no baked-in coloration—strikingly neutral.

I was looking at the Audere pre as an option as well. I watched a few YT videos and it seems to fit the bill especially the price. So this pre doesn't add color but boosts or cuts what is already there?

Nothing crazy really. A basic, efficient and light workhorse.

LB-100, Alpine White finish, black pickguard, Empress body, quartersawn maple neck and rosewood fretboard.

I like understated, timeless instruments. G&L's funky finishes are beautiful but not for me

Dropped right in. I did not leave stock pickups. Started off with Nordstrands. Currently has Aguilar DCB5J.

Another vote for audere. 0 boost, a really flexible without getting too hyped EQ i got the 4 band in 3 different basses over time.
Was impressed , have not tried the Z mode pre (yet) may go that route soon.

For what it's worth, I had a Warmoth build years ago that had an Audere preamp and I hated it.

I'd go with Delano personally. Transparent, good frequencies.

I don't have a drop-in, but I've put Audere 4-band Z-mode module preamps into two basses and still own one of them. It's a parts bass Jazz that I put Nordstrand NJ5S pickups into. I find it very neutral and very flexible.

The luthier who assembled the bass for is the one who suggested the Audere to me. At the time, I had heard of them but didn't know much about them. Glad he suggested it, this bass looks pretty bad (an SX Jazz body with horribly matched pieces of wood in the body) but it sounds fantastic. My band loves it, especially our gear head guitarist, who prefers it over my L-2500 and Stingrays.

EDIT: I also requested a change made to the knob configuration on the preamp in my parts Jazz. The standard config of the four knobs is volume, balance, treble over bass, and hi mids over low mids. I figured I'd probably want easier access to the two mids knobs than bass and treble, so I had them change the tone knobs to hi mids over treble and low mids over bass. That ended up working our real well. I like that config a lot.

Yes, that's my strong impression (with 5 installed and 2 new ones about to be shipped). The passive sound if the instrument is still there after installation with everything centered. Very musical EQ with a lot of shaping capability. Construction is excellent and sturdy.
