Thanks. It looks even better in person. Grain shows through the finish really well. I was torn between this one and a Tribby Kiloton in Irish Ale, but this one won out. First maple fret board bass I've owned. Anxious to play in a band situation, but feels great at home.
Maybe a long shot, but if anyone has done the resistor/capacitor mods to an L-1500 have 1 of each that I could buy? I think it's a 22k resistor and a .001uf capacitor. I have been looking online and it seems like it's hard to get them in small quantities.
Strap came in today for the Kiloton… I may be a little off for being really excited about it, but I am digging the look. It is a little visually loud but it works.
Will be even happier when the Talkbass store sends the tapewounds that I ordered for it. I have tried both rounds and flats on fretless before but never tapes. Based on how the tapewounds felt/sounded on my Emerald Balor (fretted), I am looking forward to trying them on the fretless Kilo.

A) That's a really nice looking burst and B) that strap looks fantastic with that bass! Just before Ethos Straps started having problems, I bought a similar looking strap from them for my sunburst Precision. Loved how it looked (the Precision will be going up for sale soon, so I'm thinking about it in the past tense now).
Hey, now that I think about it, that strap would look great on my recently acquired vintage tobacco burst Stingray...

The G&L Store has a B-stock CLF Wunkay for $1425 - Sweetwater price is $2070 - because of a tiny dent on the back. Old School Tobacco Sunburst.
How does the LB-100 pickup do with flats? I can only find one demo on YouTube - Bass Whisperer demoing GHS Precision flats. From that one sliver of evidence, the pickup and the strings don't seem to be quite on the same page, though of course it sounds nice. Would the CS alnicos be more suitable?

That is exactly how I just purchased my Kiloton. Shipped same day in a brand new G&G case with paperwork and full warranty. Definitely a great way to buy a G&L if you are ok with the damage that is present on the instrument. Most of them have been minor finish issues like the one linked.
I would look toward a different set of flats before looking for a different pickup. There may not be as much variety of tone in flat wound strings as there is for rounds, but there is still plenty of variety.
Yeah, I would love to hear a demo of La Bellas on the LB-100. Maybe I just don't like GHS flats....
PS pretty sure Chromes would sound happier on that bass of Ed F's
I've got Sadowsky Blue-Label Flats on my LB-100 and am very happy with it.
I've stated before, but, to my ear, the Volume knob on the LB-100 affects the tone, more so than some of my other basses. @100% the overwound pickup is pretty in your face, but when I pull it back 15-20%, I feel like I get a more vintage tone from the pickup.
G&L wires the pickup on the LB-100 with a treble bleed capacitor. Not sure if/how this is affecting what I'm hearing, but I do "hear" Vol knob on this bass acting differently than that of my other passive instruments. YMMV.

to my ear, the GHS flats are the most "thuddy/compressed" sounding flats there are.
chromes, Labellas DTFs, Labella LTFs, EBMM Cobalts, DR Legends, all brighter than those.
IMO, the GHS flats sit somewhere between the LaBellas and the Chromes. The GHS flats that Ed is using sound pretty new, too. So I'd be curious how they sound after he'd played them for a few months and lost that little bit of clank that they seem to have in that video.
FWIW, I have the GHS P flats on and L-1000 and they're a couple of years old at this point (broken in, though not too heavily played, as I'm don't gig regularly) and they sound much warmer than Ed's video. Conversely, my LB-100 (older model with the Gotoh pickup) has Fender flats, which are fairly similar to Chromes. It's had the same set on for about 8 years now. I tend to EQ just a hair more bass in with the LB-100 than I would with my L-1000 to compensate. I did put some LaBella LTFs on the LB-100 for a brief stint, and I actually liked the tone better than the Fender flats, but I just love the way the Fenders feel and respond on the bass, so they made their way back on. I have not tried regular LaBellas, but am curious to, but the next time I experiment with new strings on the LB-100, it will probably be GHS P flats, because I really like them on my L-1000.

Just to add, weight isn't the only thing that contributes to mass. Density is also important, though weight & density can coincide. I have one of the old graphite Steinberger XL2s. Because of its size, it's fairly light, but the material is very dense, helping to produce a great tone.
Is the LB-100 pickup definitely overwound? Is that because it's not in the usual P position? So I've read here, not sure if it's accurate though.
