G&L Club Part 7

View attachment 732072 View attachment 732073 Are the quartersawn necks, more of a quality neck? And is that an option, when ordered? Just would like to know. I plan on keeping this bass. I replaced the trussrod nut,and have been adjusting the neck, that had a minor inward bow. I have gotten it looking pretty good,by gradually adjusting the trussrod. I have gotten the strings, down low,and intonation set real comfortable now.
Zat's a fine looking bass there sir. Sort of reminds me of my Fender Aerodyne.... erg....guess I shouldn't like it too much, the Aerodyne is the one I promised to sell when I bought the G&L :woot:

I thought I could at least wait for Chef's review AND I thought I had this GAS jones under control, but it turns out the black and maple MJ5 that was available at musicstorelive took less than 24 hours to reveal just how weak I am. In my own defense anything other than black and maple I had no trouble setting aside during months of back and forth on whether to MJ5 or not MJ5. And I have been playing my black and maple M2500 the last few weeks and that definitely pushed the notion of another similarly configured acquisition.

I posted about this in a different thread but haven't gotten a response, so I'll ask here. I just got a brand new LB-100 this week with the empress body. I love it so far, but I noticed something a bit odd after looking it over. On the left side of the body contour, there are a couple divots under the finish where it seems like the wood wasn't cut or sanded properly before finishing. When I run my finger over them, they're definitely noticeable. Is that type of flaw typical with empress?

I attached a pic, but it was really difficult to photograph.

I think this bass has that battery box. Or, at least, the other empress MJ5 Bass Place had, had that battery box.
I don't know about the bridge stuff. with two screws holding the bridge on, I'll be leaving it string thru.

empress, regular maple neck, rw board, color matched headstock with only the logo (no model name), bound body and neck, 7.8lbs.
i've seen the bridge mod thing. not sure if I'll get to that.
Bass Place bought it from the G&L custom shop, I didn't order it.

re: the bridge no longer string thru -- if you zoom over this 'new' 5 string model, doesn't it look like the old string through holes have some variation of the DIY aftermarket bridge mod?

G&L has the weight on the build sheets now? Cool, I always thought they should do that. Screens out the BS dealers from lying about it.

(did that sound negative? On my first cuppa here)

Maybe they started doing that with the empress builds? Dunno; honestly, I'm way, way out of the G&L loop.
Negative? Well; accurate. Impressions are open to interpretation, as it were.
