I saw the new purpleburst/maple CLF Research L2K on the G&L website. It's very nice looking. I believe it's the first of the new model year colors shown there that Greg was telling us about all those months ago. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm still going to try to find a used m-2500. I message them a couple months ago and I think they'll still build you one.
Let me know if this is the case. I've tried to get another M through a dealer and was told it's not possible.

I used to have an L-1500, and I've had the same thought. That pickup placement could definitely benefit from active EQ, maybe even with four bands or parametric mids.
Then again, my M-2500 can get pretty close to an L-1500 type sound by panning toward the bridge pickup, so maybe an M-1500 wouldn't add much. I don't know.
At the time (some 10 years ago), G&L released the MJ-4 and the MJ-5, in both USA and Tribute versions, that I believe did not sell well and meant the end of the M pre-amp experience.

I have a 2016 Tribute MJ-4, and to me, it's a winner. Of course, for those looking for a jazz bass sound, it might've been disappointing. With noiseless jazz pickups and a 3-band active preamp, about the only thing I haven't been able to get it to do is sound like a jazz bass. That's fine by me, because I'm just not a fan of the 'jazz bass"sound, though I acknowledge that many are.
I had an M-2500 and I've demoed the MJ-4 in stores. The MJ was a bit underwhelming, IMO - as @jglunt says, doesn't really sound like a J - but honestly, I think it would have sold better if they wrapped it in the traditional J packaging, like the JB.
I think that's exactly right. Players want a bass with jazz bass pickups to sound and look like a jazz bass. The MJs did neither. In my opinion, they sound better than a jazz bass, and who needs another jazz bass copy? But I realize I'm in the minority there. The JB-2 is much the same. It actually sounds like a jazz bass, but I'll bet the JB outsells it 10 to 1, so it is now available as a Tribute only, and it wouldn't surprise me to see it discontinued completely before too long.
For those of you who might want to stick your toe in the M2000 waters to see how it feels, I found this Tribute model on Reverb. (I have no affiliation with this seller or with Reverb.) This is obviously a limited edition with body binding and a matching headstock. The price seems right and the seller accepts offers. Actually, I'm very tempted to buy it myself, but if I buy one more bass, I'm going to have to rent warehouse space to store them.

I got a smokin' deal on a used Tribute L2500 about 4 months ago and I love it. Mine had some wiring issues obviously from the factory, but they were easily fixable, and I modded mine so that when in parallel, I can switch either pickup or both pickups into single coil. Congrats! Your bass looks great.
