Wow, I didn't expect G&L to use a demo version of a Russian CRM.
When I clicked on the link I got:Yeah. I didn't intend to go on the forum with this - waiting until the condition was looked at (on the physical bass [versus photos] by the dealer). I don't have much experience with bass issues and wanted to give G&L and the dealer a chance to make a determination and resolution before I put anything out here. But since another TBer asked about how I liked the bass - I answered him in a recent post and mentioned the issue.
Because I mentioned the issue here maybe it is better to post the photos now - than have folks imagine what the bass looks like (from my description).
Not a fan of "vibrant tone control"? I was led to believe it is "a thrilling three-knob twist."

Yeah that whole video was just odd. Calling the SB2 New because they are making the SB2T option standard on Fullerton Deluxe is also a bit of a stretch. Will probably help sell them since the average bassist likely expects VVT setup, but still hard to celebrate the newness of something that has been an option for a long time.
It's as if BBE Sound hired some trendy LA Marketing consultant to come in and re-vamp G&L's look to appeal to the hipster masses yet totally missed the mark.
The old site was not bad, just needed some minor tweaking, not this. The SB-2 video is not a even a product demo. When the guy starts dancing…oh boy.

The old website mostly just needed them to keep the content up to date. The new layout of the website is fine and looks like it is probably easier to maintain. Hopefully that means they will keep it updated. In general, the new marketing slant is more of an attempt at marketing than I have seen from them, but everything about it is so far is just odd.
They also needed to have someone proofread the new site. The number of mistakes I have already seen is insane (up to 4 and I have spent less than 5 minutes on the page). I get a typo here and there, but the issues noted on this thread already take about 30 seconds to find. They prove that no one actually tried to review it.

Early 90s L5500. Seems a tad darker but I don't have good pics from that era (probably a good thing). It was played hard from '97-2002, but looks like the tuners were more affected by the blood, sweat, and tears than the neck.
What's weird too is that the SB2 is not really a great bass to do all those whacky sounds. That is just not that particular model's strength, I would say.
It's got much more of a « P bass on steroids » vibe to it. I guess they figured that this was just not sexy enough. Not marketable enough.

I'm guessing they're just dazzled by the player's shoes, hat and dance moves.
Style over substance! The style didn't put me off the SB2, but it certainly didn't do anything positive for me. The videography was good, I'll give them that. Nice clear shots of the bass, at least.
I have now been called crusty for the first time. It feels like a rite of passage.
I guess I'm just disappointed because I think those SB2s are so cool. There's a lot to love about them.

Who knows. Maybe some kid will see that one Tic Tok and start some craze about them.
