Single coil mode. That bass never made it off the dealers counter. But you are right, its probably not the same one.

Shrinkage happens over time. If that bass finish is already 6yrs old and it's been knocking around the G&L factory this whole time, I wouldn't be surprised at all for it to have "shrinkage and micro-dents" on the finish now. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it's the same one. They're just clearing out old storage shelves now, I bet.

Either way, I'm happy. It's going to be paired up with a heavily weathered neck and some hardware that's seen much better days. I'm happy it'll be structurally sound, which the current body probably isn't.

Sorry pic, I feel like I overshadowed your body score a bit with my failed build story.

I still think G&L paint jobs are world class and their ruby red is one of the best colors IMO. Congrats, Im looking forward to seeing how it turns out! :cool:

So when I initially got this bass I was trying to get a partial refund for the neck repair and keep it ,I called the original store that had it (not the one it's at now) and the manager "claimed" they did a setup on it and would've caught it. I said yeah he must've not checked the neck at all then .
He only wanted to refund 200$ since they probably paid about what the neck replacement costs for the bass.
When I returned this to the guitar center it's at now , the manager asked me to show him , on the bass and my video , happily agreed , and I thought I saw him typing it into a description , but I'm wondering now if it's for their personal notes, as it's not listed there.
If he didn't write it at all , they might be questioning why a couple people are emailing them that already know the issue with it haha

So CG Corporate has issues. We're all aware.

What I'll say is that every time I've ever shopped at GC online, I've always reached out to the in-store manager and given them a call to talk about the instrument while they've had it in-hand. These are GCs all over the country, over several years, and literally every time the manager has given me a straight, no-joke assessment of what I was asking about. My experience is that on-site management isn't GC's problem, at least not in terms of online sales.

The neck is rather straight surprisingly. Bass in good condition otherwise. There is a thread about this bass where I entertained keeping it and replacing the neck but decided not to. Now it is listed again here at the local GC I returned it to.

No longer on their site. Hopefully it was removed for being defective and not bought by someone...

It just arrived, four days early. Lol.

So I'm very curious now about whether this might actually be your body. It looks pretty much pristine, but it looks like it never had hardware put on and, tellingly, it's got no holes drilled for strap buttons. Did yours lack strap buttons when you were looking at it on the counter?

No it was fully assembled and delivered. I checked and the bass was delivered June 2018 so that is most likely not it with the 10/18 date.

Sounds like this one maybe had an error before it left the line. What do you think of the ruby? I love that it goes from dark almost plum in low light to bright red sparkle in the light.

I pulled it out of the box and my son shook his head. "It's, like, black." Then I turned the light on and he nearly fell off the couch.

I can't find any real problems with it. Maybe a small dent here and there, but I'll probably do worse damage than that the first time I try to maneuver it around onstage.

I recommend calling the manager at the store and asking him to get the bass off the rack and to describe it to you. If it seems sound, it would probably be worth it. The biggest issue might be the truss rod. He really won't have the time to check that. Verify that it's returnable. I've bought two used G&Ls from a couple different GCs, and they're fine, but I've always called first, and I got the name of the person I was speaking to.
