No, never really had an issue. Just the overall shape of the body. Looks cool, doesn't always seem cool to play.

The ASAT bass with M-2K controls would be interesting...

A 5-string ASAT BASS would be prone to problematic neck dive, particularly with a semi-hollow body.

Got an ok deal on L-1500 I couldn't pass up. 6 bolt neck so . Based on the serial number is seems it is a late 98 or early 99. It joins my L-1000, L-2000 and L-2500 View attachment 7230557

Love the esthetic (no pg or control plate) of this model, although I'd prefer it with the Kiloton's body and wiring setup.

A 5-string ASAT BASS would be prone to problematic neck dive, particularly with a semi-hollow body.

I'm not super concerned with neck dive. I spent the first 13 years of my bass journey playing a Gibson EBO (starting as a 9 year old), and I have other "neck divers" now that don't really bother me with the right strap. I have many perfectly balanced basses to compare against, and the neck divers just don't really bother me enough to do anything about. A good wide straps is enough for me.

I'm totally down with all the G&L neck codes. I'd have to measure the nut but the nut is closer to a Jazz and the neck is shallow and sort similar to a modern C Fender.

I put up my '87 SB-1 for sale a while back and I've mostly had only a few trade offers for things I had no interest in. It's been in it's case in the closet for a few months, but I got it out today to loan to my son's friend for a rehearsal (his friend has been borrowing an Ibanez Mikro for a while). I plugged it in and 2 things hit me like a lightning bolt: A) it feels and plays FANTASTIC, and B), it sounds AMAZING.

So I think it's not for sale, after all. Probably.

I have been enjoying the heck out of my '94 LB-100 which wears nearly decade old Chromes and has a Honey Badger pickup in it. Now I just have to decide if the Hipshot I have for them goes back onto the SB-1 (worn-in rounds), or to the LB-100 (flats).

Rediscovering a bass is almost as good as NBD…

If it were me, I'd probably choose to put the Hipshot on the SB-1, mainly because I think that rounds and the extended tonal spectrum for the MFD would be better at the lower tuning than flats and a more traditional P. But that's just my gut and I don't downtune often.

I've mentioned before installing the John East J-Tone preamp on my JB, so here are a couple of pics of it. I got the Fender style knobs, I think it keeps the original aesthetic pretty well. It sounds amazing too.

Just swapped the tuning pegs on my M-2500 Tribute to Hipshot UltraLite Lollipops (USA).
I cut 15mm sections in a 18mmOD/17mmID aluminum pipe for an absolute perfect fit.
The D key slanted orientation is the same as on a Fullerton model. The weight gain is 215 gr (7.6 oz.)
Really happy with the new look and improved functionnality!!!
