Appreciate the response. I know the versatility of the L2k; I've had one of mine for about 25 years now... But, I dunno, it's just missing some of the heft that the L2ks are known for. Just IMO.

While the ASAT isn't my cup of tea, I do love my 82 L2K and 2014 L2500. My 2 L's sound nothing alike though which I attribute to the preamp, The 82 L2K is much more in your face and the L2500 is far more polite.
Both are great though and while I gig with the 2500 50% of the time (I like to change things up), the 82 L2K has gone on every gig with me since I got it March. My other 4's are getting jealous!

I had a few made in the late '90s for UK at artist Cass Lewis. They were really neck divey but he didn't care; he wanted the L-2500 tone in the ASAT shape. With a JB-5 headstock it may be slightly worse.

Think people would go for it?

I would sell my firstborn for a 5-string SB-2. Will G&L start putting no-tool battery compartment doors on their active basses, like other manufacturers? I've always admired ESP's metallic, flip-style battery compartment.

Ron here wants the wunkay and wunkay5 to be in the line. Haven't thought about the headstock as we dig the 3+2 on a modern 5er. I insisted on the 4+1 for the JB-5; really had to be that way.

I agree that the 4+1 was the way to go on the JB-5. A 3+2 would just look out of place. When I first saw G&Ls about 15 years ago, I wasn't too fond of the 3+2 on the 5'ers, but they've grown on me. Also, I don't mean to make all 5'ers 4+1, just make it an option along with the wider nut that the JB-5 has. The 5'ers haven't really had any options as they only come with the #10 neck. Maybe time to change it up a bit?

Ya, some generic P bass neck. Notice the hacked on truss rod access notch, crudely squared off neck heel corners to accommodate a Fender neck, and the REALY bad looking location of the saddles. That's what happens when you stick a 20 fret neck on a G&L.

I makes me very, very sad to see an and G&L abused like that.

Agreed on both counts! I'd love an SB-25, especially if they used a five-string version of the El Toro narrow humbuckers for the bridge pickup. No hum, more punch.

That ESP battery compartment is really cool. I'd like to change the one on my M-2500, but the batteries last so long that it hasn't been a huge hassle...yet.

Just wanted to check in as a new TB member. I've got two LB-100's, a Lake placid blue empress with maple, and a graphite metallic with rosewood. I've been playing my 1993 Fender Urge bass since I bought it new, but in the last year I've acquired a love for the LB-100.

For that price, though, if the neck pocket isn't cut up other than the truss rod route, might be worth it for a rehab project or parts...

I had the same thought, then I realized he squared off the end of the neck pocket to fit the square end of the fender style neck. G&L necks are rounded at the end of the pocket.

A dedicated wood worker might be able to repair it.

Fender necks are usually rounder at the heel than G&L necks. But my guess is the pocket is probably a little chewed up either way.
