You're right, I had that backwards. Maybe he mutilated the generic neck instead of the bass body. One can hope.

A while back, G&L started offering the "OLS" option on ASAT guitars. Part of the reason was for weight savings. With weight being a consideration for a number of bass players nowadays, have you guys thought about doing the same with your basses? I know the early basses were about 1-1/2" thick compared to the 1-5/8" now.

Interesting seeing a bit of debate about 3+2 versus 4+1 headstocks. My 2 mid '90s L2000 will be buried with me, but the only reason I don't own an L2500 is simply that I can't stand the look of 3+2, nothing more. And I think the few 4+1 headstock L2500s I've seen look great.
I really think it should be an option.
Plus.....I would sell a kidney for a JB4 or JB5 with L2x00 pickups and preamp. Just sayin'!

I have 3 fretted 5-string G&Ls and I am considering a used G&L 5-string fretless. What's been your experience with G&L's 5-string fretless basses?
string experimentation: i'm just not a fan of the exl 165 strings anymore (they seem brighter and stiffer nowadays)

This showed up on the local Craigslist today. It makes me want to cry.

It happens because G&L replacement necks are difficult and expensive to obtain but cheap Fender-style necks are everywhere.

Question for the JB5 owners: do you know if a standard Fender Jazz V pick guard will fit the JB5 basses?
Yeah 12lbs is pretty hefty and that bass is mint because it didn't get played. Not all the early ones are that bad, most that I see are in the 9.5 to 10.5 range.
My 82 L2KE weighs in at 10.75 but it really hangs well and with a wider strap it's actually comfortable to play at gigs.
12lbs may be a little much though.
No discussion of that. It's only been fairly recently that L-2000/2500 moved to a separate battery compartment like we did for the Ms.
Technically it's not even offered outside of Japan, but apparently the sales department does otherwise sometimes. If it were to become standard, it would become factored in with the next price increase.
