G&L Club Part 7

I totally don't want to step in anything by posting this here, but I thought you may dig it. We're going to be cutting demos and stuff in a new studio named Live! At Leo's here at the G&L factory. Here's a teaser with an L-2000 through a BBE BMAX-T DI out:

Put a new set of strings on my L2500 this morning. Just blown away by how awesome this bass is. The neck is just an absolute work of art. Love this thing.

Another inquiry,
have you guys ever thought about doing a limited run L2K with the original pickup placement as seen in the 1980 catalog?

Based on the bridge pickup location, it seems like you could add a neck pickup to an L-1500 and call it good.

Geez. I always thought the early L2Ks looked like the first gen Sabre basses, but with the original pickup placement it REALLY looks like a Sabre that lost its pickguard.

I'm partial to the pickup placement G&L settled on, FWIW.

Even the bridge is similar. Take the Sabre bridge, ditch the mutes and shorten it, and you pretty much have a G&L saddle-lock bridge.

Those early Sabre bridges even had the protrusion on the underside that went into a slot cut into the body, just like the G&L bridge.
Sabre pickup coils are exactly the same size and string spacing and polepiece diameter as G&L MFDs. The mounting screw locations are exactly the same, so you can put a Sabre pickup right into an L2000 but not the reverse, due to the different pickup cover shapes.

I suppose a LB-100 style PJ is one thing I wouldn't really buy from you guys since I am more of a SB guy. I own one of each, SB-1 and SB-2. I owned a LB100 for awhile and it was hands-down the best P bass I've ever had, but my SB-1 does everything I want in a simple P style bass. I traded my LB-100 for a L2000 and couldn't be happier.

Hopefully it's a L1000 or something new! A SB-2 like the old ones with dual single coils would be awesome, I'd buy it.

Keep up the amazing work! I am a huge G&L fan. That's all I own when it comes to USA made basses.

Also, if you get a chance, please tell Patrick McKee he's the man! He put together every one of the basses I own, oddly enough, with a couple that had a different Plek tech.

• Just got a ASAT Tom Hamilton signature model and this thing is a total monster! The neck pup is sweet but when you toggle to series mode the thing turns into a BEAST I love the active/ passive option as well. The playability is matchless. The blue metal flake finish is off the hook!! I love this bass!!!

Unfortunately, Dave already shot that down on the last page. I'm thinking/hoping its either a Wunkay reissue, or a passive M-series in a JB body.

Yes, I loved that L v. M, and felt safe buying an M, without ever playing one, largely because of that video. I may have preferred the L, but saw a deal I couldn't resist on an M-2500 in my favorite finish with quartersawn neck. It's been fantastic.

He said it was a 4 stringer. "passive yet powerful, simple yet versatile"

I think that means MFD equipped. It may be a L1000 or some sort of new model they are making.

If it's a L1000 or a MFD Jazz bass (like the original SB-2s) I'm sold.

I'd like it if they did it both ways. The L1500 is a sweet bass, but it'd be sweeter with some sort of neck pickup to give it some extra boom.
