It's what I've read. The 'L2x00 Custom' also had a book-matched swamp ash top over an alder body. I guess bending the top ash ply for the arm contour may
also have been a issue (or an additional cost) at the time. Let me say that when playing my L2500 or my ASAT Bass, I pay no attention to the body squared edge, having no arm contour doesn't bother me at all.

Here's where I'm coming from on the arm contour.
I bought a Godin 5er (I forget the correct model name/number) and that bass seemed to cut into my chest because it did not fit me correctly, so I'm sensitive on basses having the right carving(s). I also played guitar for many years and the sharp top edges of my Ovation cuts into my forearm.
I do want the contour, and also a lighter L2500; so it's a US L2500 for me to get the bass with the features I like.

using the L2000 with the mini moog delay for the jah wobble sound my friend wants in his art project band, it's really cool to have that dark of a sound along with the delayed harmonics
Just gonna leave these photos here. I think i'm one of the few G&L guys here that love EMGs, which makes me think that i'd be a great candidate for an M-2500! A black or green burst M2500 with a quarter sawn neck is definitely on the list!

I am looking for a 4 string equivalent to my 5 string Nordy VP5 with maple neck and fretboard. I checked out a LB-100 today (Alder with rosewood board) and A/B'd it against my VP-5 and later checked out an American Fender Precision (Alder with rosewood board). I typically run the tone knob on my bass nearly all the way off. On the LB-100, the sound with the tone rolled all the way off was much brighter than the Nordy (and the Nordy was on par with the American Fender P).
Is it everyone else's experience that the LB-100 pickup is brighter?

D U D E ! ! Those are RADICAL!! You are absolutely NOT alone, I love G&L and also love EMGs! I have ALWAYS wanted to put EMGs into an L-2000, I've even thought about putting them in an LB-100. Those look SO good! Are they DC40s? They seem to fit perfecly! Where did your switches go? Tell me more, this is the coolest thing I've seen in 207 pages of this thread! I always thought it was so gool that G&L put the EMGs in the L-5500, is that essentially what you've done?

I had not, thank you! My problem is that not only is the string spacing too tight on the L-5500, but I am not really a 5 string guy in general. That's why I mentioned that I've always wanted to do this on an L-2000. These are cool though!
They're L5500s and i'm a huge sucker for green basses. I get all weak-kneed whenever I see a green G&L.
I believe the L5500 was G&L's first stab at a production 5-string. @Darth Invader would know. The DC40s sound great, but many folks choose to upgrade the pre to an 18v system. L5500s do not have the array of switches, like its L2500 cousin, but a volume, blend, and stacked bass/treble knob. The hi-fi clarity of the DC40s and the pick-up bend knob are two of the reasons why I lean heavily towards the 5500s during live performances over the L2500s that I own(ed), which is another reason why I need an M2500
I bought the one on the far left for $600, and the one of the far right for $1000. Both are in pristine condition! The green burst, quarter sawn L2500 will be an heirloom.

Anyone here know where to get a nut for an L2500 neck? (Not a G&L owner per se, but I bought a few necks from them that have been gradually sprouting bodies...)
I have a '91 or possibly early '92 Leo signature L2000 and it came stock with black crinkle bridge and neck plate.
