G&L Club Part 7

For me it made the most sense as I have one that does series and parallel as it is and having to choose between inner and outer coils was killing me, so many pro's and cons for each, so why not have both!

Interestingly I preferred my solid body in parallel so it's preserved and semi hollow in series, so I am not losing anything.

Switch lost in the post, so maybe an extra day or so before the review.....

You should just get a little pencil tip soldering iron, study up on the wiring diagrams and how the pickups get wired to the switch and then you can change the configuration to your hearts content. It's really super simple.

Thanks man! I should have written more clearly, that I do notice a difference, albeit a subtle one to my ears. Maybe I just need to spend more time with it. I just wonder if the difference would be negligible in a live band context.

@68Goldfish i couldn't agree with you more

Currently no space at home, but after the mrs gets her extension and kitchen I get a man cave/music and tinkering room...!
I have no experience at all electronically so may get a burner bass at this stage to mess about with before setting loose on my precious!

No, it makes a huge difference in a regular band context, IMO. It did on my old L2500, at least. I wired my pickups independently so I could select modes for each pickup simultaneously. It made a big difference within the context of the band. I like low end, but not at the expense of note clarity and definition, so I rarely used series mode. If I had both pickups up full, I'd often use SC mode (outer coils) for more of a Jazz-style sound. Otherwise, parallel in the bridge for a nice thick and meaty, but articulate tone with enough brightness.

That thing is so sweet! Customizing your bass with whatever options is what makes G&L so awesome. That and great quality. Even though it looks great I don't know if I could hang with the slab body required for the body binding. Reminds me to much of my old Rick. I gotta have the contours.

Okay a stretch here but. Had a G&L L2000 early with maple fretboard. I believe it was originally yellow? Then painted red? Then rattle can black. I got it and sanded it down and with some help from reranch painted it seafoam green. The screw neckplate obviously and with original (no fin) on head. Sold it on ebay 15 odd years ago to help out a family I knew. Miss this bass dearly. I shipped it out of Portland OR if that helps. Can't remember where I shipped it to. Any help is appreciated. Fairly unique G&L.

Have you tried the G&L registry? You can search basses and guitars made in the 80s, 90s up to the ones rolled out merely weeks ago. It would help if you had your serial number available.
