They're expensive, but I will always suggest Kalium strings for low or drop tunings. They're just much more consistent in tone and tension.

Just moved to DDT strings on my ASAT extra heavy-they are great!

It sounds great if you like that, but to be fair the G&Ls will sound great playing through a megaphone, it's all about what you want, cabs etc.
What I am finding out slowly is that G&Ls on their own are enough without much in the way of pedals, or just very slight sound modulation.
I am comparing them To a newly acquired Sandberg MarloweDK, the output difference is very noticeable, both have great tone

I sold my awesome Tribute L-2000 and kept an SB-1 and an LB-100. Too many switches and knobs on the L2K for my little brain. Great tones though! You can't go wrong with G&L.
I use the DDT DR strings and love them I play in Standard C and Drop my B string to A and even with the 34in scale the DDT strings sound great and are not floppy.
I run the Quilter BB800 and love it. see my Avatar for my whole rig. The L2500 with the BB800 and the Schorder cabs is ridiculous.
I remember thinking it was a little much. After looking at the control scheme, I found that learning how to tame the bass isn't so tough. Choose a pickup(s), add/cut bass, use preamp or don't, then two-band EQ. But whatever works, ya know.
i'm gonna try the quilter at an event in oc on saturday and then i can evaluate my heavy tube head situation more effectively
There isn't a tone i couldn't use, friend. They're all swell.
Never understood the "too many knobs and switches" thing on L2k's, it's pretty simple, and all useable tones. I find fiddling with 2v/2t control setups far more aggravating. In practice I tend to set and forget, but it's nice to have the extra options.
Yes I like them on my M2000 in standard tuning E-A-D-G and on my L2500 Tribute I have them in standard B-E-A-D-G Tuning . Then they also work great in A-C-F-A♯-D♯ on my US L2500

Since, I'm new to bass, I would have to test some set before knowing witch gauge I prefer.
I also like the option for switching to passive if the battery happens to fail while at a gig or rehearsal.
Some guys rip out the battery and flip the preamp on and use it to mute the bass. Kind of smart, actually.
Definitely useful to be able to do that. However, I also like passive as another tonal option, especially passive-serial-neck. That's the most common setting I use on my L-2500.
Hadn't thought of that, interesting idea.
I used my L-2K through my GK MB800 -> fEARful 12/6 last summer for a 6 hour outdoor gig* and loved it.
*Something of a rarity in the UK where you can pretty much put money on it raining if you set up outside without weather protection (we were at a horse race meeting so there was plenty of betting going on).
