my L2000 sounds really really warm when in active, not sure if that's an 83 thing or just mine
I've recently found a use for the treble boost setting. Like I was saying this bass seems to have come miss-wired from the factory in such a way that on a certain setting of the switches there's three coils working at a time, the entire bridge pickup and the rear coil from the neck pickup. Anyway, that setting is significantly louder and way more bass-ier than the other settings. It's the bite of the rear pickup but with added bass and balls. The treble boost works well on this setting. Really cool sound, especially with a pick.
Very interesting, I've never imagined a 3 coil setting. Which positions is it for the two other switches?
It leads to test the entire bridge pickup and the FRONT coil from the neck pickup, I think it would add even deeper bass. More switches in perspective!

It's like this...there's three different possibilities when in series mode depending on where the pickup selector switch is positioned. Imagine that you have the middle switch pushed all the way foward towards the neck. That is series position. Now imagine you have the pickup selector switch pushed all the way foward towards the neck. That selects the neck pickup. But on this bass only the frontmost coil of the neck pickup works. Push the pickup selector switch to the middle position and all four coils work. Push the pickup selector to the rear position and both coils of the bridge pickup and the rear coil of the neck pickup works. Again, this is all in series mode. All other switch positions in parallel and single coil (it has the K wiring mod) work totally normal and correct. And actually if you follow what I'm saying you'll see that there is no differnce between the neck pickup in series mode and the neck pickup in single coil mode meaning to say on both settings only the front coil (outer) of the neck pickup works.

I actually use the treble boost on a couple songs. I use it when I'm wanting a more cutting distorted kind of thing. In the right situation it works pretty darn well.
My old SB-2 didn't have a tone control. The one I have now does. If it weren't there, I don't know if I would miss it except if I turn the bridge pup off, I get a better P sound and can use the tone like I would on a P.

I have an SB-1, and I found that round round strings are a bit to zingy on it even after broken in. I just switched to TI flats and liking it a lot so far. Thumps w tone down and it still bites w tone up.
I LOVE DR Fat Beams on my SB-2. A little stainless crunch, with booty. For what you're playing, you might want something with a little less zing, like DR Sunbeams or Pure Blues, but the Fat Beams break in nicely and IMO pair nicely with the MFD split-coil.
Fresh off the interwebs, I just ordered a G&L Tribute L2500 in blueburst. This will be my first G&L. I am looking forward to getting it.

True Story: The last time I held a G&L bass in my hands it was a USA L2500 at a TINY music store on Long Island...... in the late 90s....back when I was in high school. It has been a while, BUT that bass gave me a lasting impression. It felt like a million bucks.
