Another update on the L-1000. In single coil mode, it's the coil closest to the bridge which is on (misremembered that one). In OMG mode, which I take to be series, the coil closest to the nut has the capacitor and sounds much bassier than the coil closest to the bridge--based on best tapping with a jeweler's screwdriver.

What can I expect sound wise from the ebony board? I had one years ago on a carvin (it was also neck through) and I remember the slap tone on that bass was awesome. Not sure if it had anything to do with the ebony. I'm a maple fret board guy through and through. I have six basses right now and there isn't a rosewood board in sight. This ebony will be very interesting for a change if nothing else.

I'm nut sure as I have no experience with that bass but if the two coils are wired in series then I can't think of how one coil would be different than the other. Everything is going through both coils (and anything else in the circuit) one right after the other. Now I could be wrong...

I've always thought that ebony is somewhere in between maple and rosewood. Brighter than rosewood, darker than maple.

Yeah, I totally understand that. It could be that OMG is a parallel configuration with one coil altered with the capacitor. The problem with that hypothesis is the apparent significant jump in volume when switching from parallel to OMG. Volume shouldn't go up when some signal is drained from one of the coils, but the coils are in the same configuration. Hopefully, some pickup smary pants is going to jump in here and clarify all this.

Wanted to share a little mod I did this morning.

In an ongoing effort to get the first fret of my Asat closer to my body while standing, I added a Dunlop recessed straplock to the back of the bass.
I bought a custom made extender for the top horn last year and it works very well, but for me, it still didn't hang just right. Resale value isn't a concern because I don't plan on ever selling this bass.

The first time I saw this mod was on a Dingwall AB1 that I owned and I really liked it. It moves the bottom edge of the body closer to your right side and brings the neck closer to your left side. I didn't want to interfere with the bridge so the final measurements are 1.5" from the lower bout and 3" from the top of control cavity. The placement works really well for me.

It fit perfectly in a 3/8"x 3/8" hole and there was no need to shorten the mounting screw. The drill bit size for the pilot hole/ screw was 1/8"

Plays super comfy now and I'll will report back after wearing her for a few hours tomorrow.

Wow! That's really something... I'm not sure if I'd like it or not, especially for picking down near the bridge and spending most of my time above the 5th fret, but it ought to work for what you say you want and looks super classy!

wow! I you ever need to borrow a bass for a gig remind me not to ever lend you my old short short horn Thumb bass! You would hate it! :D

If it becomes yours, please let us know your thoughts about that control scheme. I've never owned a first gen SB-2 but have often wondered if I'd like the switching arrangement vs. the two volumes of the current scheme.

Yikes, if I thought the seller was going to drop the price that much I'd have kept an eye on it. Great score if the neck is good.

That's a really rare bird there. Lynx's are kinda rare anyway, but that's the first one I've ever seen with a maple board. From the pics it looks like the body has both contours, so it's not an SB-2 with a transplanted Lynx neck. Custom order?
