Hey man - would you mind letting me know what your experience is through your UK dealer? I need a new 3 bolt neck for my mid '90s L2000 and would love to not have to send mine back to the US (I'm in Australia).

Ok, I understand now. I was surprised when the previous distributor emailed me with the bad news. So this is good news. G&L make great basses and they really do need representation in the UK.
jcburn - I will report back, but it might take a while as I am in the process of trying to buy a double bass. That is a whole different world - expensive and time consuming. I will deal with my SB-2 when I can.

I just picked this L-2000 up from the 'bay. Seems clean and pristine with a quartersawn neck! This now completes my 4 string L-series collection of L-1000, L-1500, and L-2000! I'm thinking of doing something like putting flats on the L-1000 or L-1500. Any suggestions? I read elsewhere on here where a few people thought flats on the L-1000 didn't work well, but I haven't seen much about the L-1500.

I'm back to half rounds on my fretted L1000 and flats on my fretless L1000. After years of half rounds I moved over to flats, but now I'm starting to eyeball round wounds again, but most likely for my SB1.I just picked this L-2000 up from the 'bay. I've played half rounds and compression wounds before, but I didn't think they gave me much tonal variety from mellower rounds. If I put flats on one of them, it will be to get that old school thump. I may just leave them all with rounds too because they sound pretty different from each other.
I've just recenty gotten my L-1000 have put TI Jazz Flats on it. To my ears it sound just terrific with those strings on.

I think that a set of GHS pressure wounds are going on my L 2500 next; I have a set on my tony Franklin FL and I think they are the perfect string. I hope they tame down the bass a little. I have the tony Franklin signature strings on my M bass and they are a really nice combination

I put Chromes on my L-2500 a couple of months ago - in large part to @twinjet's suggestion (although I had them on a Precision V for several years so I was already familiar with them, at least on that bass). I think they're a great match for these basses. They're still bright and let all the aggressive tone of an L come through, but they also let you tame it a little if you want to. I also find that the bright aggressive tone of the L's pickups makes string noise even more an issue for me (couldn't possibly be my crappy technique!
) and flats eliminate it completely.FWIW, The Chromes replaced nickel Lo Riders, which also sounded fantastic. But then again, I love nickel Lo Riders on any bass. They're always my first choice of string unless I have a specific reason to use something else (and sometimes that reason is just curiosity to try something new).

I've currently got TI's on my fretless L2500. They sound phenomenal. They were also on another bass for a good 3 years, and sat on the shelf another couple of years. They are a lot of money, but you'll probably get many years out of them. I've got other TI's that get swapped onto any of my 4 strings as needed. Those are probably 8 years old, as well, and have seen several continuous years of use between at least 3 instruments.

Ok, I'm sold. Now I just need to decide which L series bass to put them on...
Not yet. For the record, I have them on my M2000 Tribby, my L1500 fretless and now the L1000. I've had them on the L2500—where they were OK as well, but I now have Dean Markley Blue Steels on there for other purposes. I tend to treat the L1000 as a kind of super-P-bass where I want the mid-punch of really good flats—and for me the TIs are just that! I've had the same set of TIs on my '68 Fender P-bass for a decade and a half now, so I guess on a string $/year basis they're a pretty darned good deal—and they still sound just right. I also love the feel of TIs under my hand. These strings have a kind of "bite" to their sound that can be uniquely heard through a stage mix. It's impossible to describe well unless you've used them, but the TI fans here will know what I mean. I really think they're "it" for the L1000, at least for the blues, jazz, R&B, and classic rock that I play these days.
Your description of the TIs on the L-1000 is exactly what I'm looking for! I'll have to put in an order with BSO today. I just put Labella RX Nickel Plated on the L-2000 and I need to let them settle in before deciding if I like them, but I'm going to order Boomers for it too because those sounded great on the L-1500 and L-1000. I have Dunlop Super Bright Nickels on the L-1000 right now and I'm not really happy with the crispiness of them compared to the Boomers I took off a few weeks ago.
