I really do too! My 1997 was the trans green with maple neck and I thought that was a great combination (the same color my L-1500 is now), but I love the purple too! I also am a huge fan of the 1-5/8" beefy neck on this. I feel like I finally have back the bass that I always regretted selling, except 15 years newer :)

That is an amazing color! Purple? I lov G&Ls, but I always find myself a little overwhelmed by L2000s.

Strings are so subjective, and what is bliss for one is blather for another.....so for what its worth -

I've had my L1505 for about a year and a half now. She wore a set of GHS roundwound cheese-graters on it when I bought it. Bold and brash was the tone from that combination.
I wanted to mellow it down just a touch but still keep it different than my SR5. I ended up stringing the L1505 with DR Legends Flats. I'm pretty happy with them.

Many people think the world of TI strings, its your bass and your money, but for me I'm happy with the combination I'm running now.
DR's are generally more coin than comparable D'Addario or GHS strings, but a far cry less coin than TI's.

Thanks, I think I have an old set of DR flats hanging around somewhere. I already ordered the TIs for the L-1000, but may have to try the DRs on the L-1500.

I have ultralites on another bass and I like them. The G&L website says the USA tuners fit with some modification, probably the holes for the mounting screws. It would be great if the new tuners covered up the existing holes for the old tuners. That's my only (small) gripe about the ultralites.

Just compared those on one of my Tribbys to those on a US-made. The shaft size seems the same (don't know about the ferrule outer diameter without taking them out...). The screw arrangement is different. The bottom screws seem similar but the top screws in the lighter US version are closer together than those in the Tribby. Seems relatively minor if the ferrule situation is sorted out.

So here's a set of photos. The first two are a Tribby SB-2 and the last two are my new L-1000. It's a bit hard to tell, but the ferrules seem different: a bigger, flatter collar on those on the US model. I can't tell the external diameter of the ferrule (the fit parameter in terms of the hole that needs drilling) without disassembling one of each, but I might be persuaded to do so. The screw set-up seems less different than I first thought. Anyhoo, have a look. [Crappy phone pictures.]

can we have more photos of your L1000 ? a new one? :)

I'm pretty sure that the shaft size is the same for the Tribute and USA tuners.

I bought a Tribute L-2000 that'd had the tuners swapped to Ultralites and a USA decal added (but don't tell anyone!). I'm almost sure that the ferrules are original, they look identical to those on my Tribute L-2500. I swapped back to cheap Chinese tuners because I needed the Ultralites for a project and they fit into the generic Chinese ferules (didn't swap the ferules).

The mounting holes are different, I seem to remember being able to see two of the original screw holes when the Ultralites were fitted (long time ago and my memory ain't what it used to be so could be more (or less) than 2).
