Hey! That ain't too shabby. Okay, I'll back to my original post, mint or cream or but not tortoise shell with Fullerton (Fiesta) red!

Not all torts are created the same. I've never been a big fan of the more red hued tort. But I have a white Fender Jazz V that has a more brown-ish with bits of gold looking tort that's kind of handsome. Even classy. Still not sure it'd work but if I had to go tort with that Fullerton red, I'd consider this:

But again, the mint pickguard on that red JB is pretty snazzy.

That's a cool L-1500, but it's a pretty steep price. I picked up mine for $650

The L1500 has the standard L-series active preamp (the "extra switch" is passive/active/active with treble boost) with passive bass and treble cut controls and a series/parallel switch, whereas the Kiloton is all passive with just a treble rolloff and the coil switch.

The Kiloton's pickup switch is series/parallel/split while the L1500's is just series/parallel. As well, I'm pretty sure that the Kiloton is based on the SB-series slender body while the L1500 is, well, an L-series body.

Almost. The "extra switch" is just preamp on/off. The preamp has a lot of treble boost built in, so it's essentially missing the center "active" option and is just passive/active with treble boost. But it can be modded to L-2000 specs or just to take the treble boost out fairly easily, if you're handy with a soldering iron.

So I'm trying to sell a couple of my green G&L 5-strings, primarily because I'm getting back into playing 4-stringers, but people keep on messaging and asking why the L-5500 is so cheap ($500)! They think something is wrong with it. So I just raised the price! Heh.

I thought $500 was more than reasonable, since i've seen them sell for $450-$650 on reverb. I guess nobody trusts anyone these days.

Historically L-5500s don't command the same kind of money that the L-2000 series does. They have a reputation for being heavy, and then you have the whole EMG thing on top of it. Turns people off. It's too bad cause they're great basses. I think one of your green 5500s was mine at one point.

The L-1500/1505s suffer from lower than normal G&L resale value too. It's probably the reputation of the preamp. But keep it in passive mode and it's a just a fantastic growl machine.
