They also call that Monkey Pod, and it does tend to be like a slightly lighter piece of Ash or Alder. It's not super light like Empress, but I've had several Monkey Pod guitars and basses pass through here and all the weights were very reasonable.

Looks like you decided to keep both. I had my eye on the greenburst L2500 for a while. Sharp looking bass. Nothing seems to be selling in the classifieds nowadays.....
Yeah, I was trying to thin the herd. I have basses in my studio space and at home, so I was trying to get rid of a few as they don't get played. But I recently convinced myself that having a bass collection isn't such a bad thing. I'm currently thinking about a passive JB or the 18v M-series now.

Who else has seen the announcement about the Tribute Kiloton? I want one, but I don't want to get rid of the M-2000 and then not like the Kiloton.
Fiscal responsibility will help you own both.
You can also gamble and invest in bitcoin. My friend made $1000 in a couple weeks that way.
There might be a way for me to get the Tribute Kiloton and then maybe a US model. (M-series, L-series?)

As good as Kiloton may be to some (from what I could understand, it's generally not my cup of tea), these two are massively different. M-2000 is quite versatile (I bet you can squeeze a similar, though not identical tone from it), while Kiloton is a very simple passive one-trick pony. Too large a risk to do a swap.
Yeah, that occurred to me. It's possible that that one trick might be just what I want. I like simplicity.
I would then save some money and buy the Kiloton without selling the M2K. It might turn out that you prefer a different kind of simple.
I am currently G&L-less, but I've owned (4): An ASAT, SB-2, M2k, and the Centennial Leo L2K that I kick myself every day for selling.
Every one of them was a delight to play and was built to perfection.

The L1000 has turned out to be my kind of simple. The core tone is kind of a souped-up P-bass given the pickup placement, with quite a variation in colours via passive switching. More vintage than modern. The Kiloton's core tone is more modern (it seems to me) due to its pickup placement with variations from there.

Do you guys feel like these Kiloton's sound closest to a 'ray in G&L's current lineup? I'd consider getting one if I know it will sound different enough from my L2k and SB2
