G&L Club Part 7

Been lurking in the classifieds (not in the market for anything) and noticed that up to Page 20 (and possibly even further), there haven't been any M series basses for sale (US or Tributes). Are they so good that people are willing to keep them en masse? Or are they just still rare?

Aggreeed! What is up with the M2500's availability on the used market? I saw one come up on ebay for $999 and it was gone in 24 hours (I got the listing notice but was too late.) I think that was a steal to be honest. I picked up an L2500 for $899 in mint condition for that matter 2 months ago. Why are this things so "cheap" used? (I guess I had two questions!)

...but where can I find a compatible body?

I don't want to swap this Tribute neck on to my USA made L-1500.

I know Warmoth doesn't fit as stock...

YES.
At least during some period. It's an older model, seeing the rust on the neck pickup screw...

I'd love to see a pickguard a little like an old Fender Tele (one of the ones that extends on to the top horn). I just like the lines it produces and breaks up the look of the body.

You will get very close to the tone of a Jazz Bazz (2 x single coil PUs!!!).
With more articulation or definition, and enhanced harmonics in the mid and high frequencies, compared to the MFDs.

My opinion

If you use the outer coils, yes. I guess that's what the "K mod" traditionally is.

I did the inner coils to mine. More of a focused tone with a little more upper midrange than you get running both pickups as buckers. More of a Stingray tone than a Jazz tone, but it's not a Ray clone by any means.

Doing the inner coils replicates the single coil option on the L-1000, when the neck single coil is used. It's quite a nice option. A little more articulate than a J neck pickup solo'd.

Wow, I love that honeyburst finish, especially with the tort pickguard (well, disregarding the questionable pickup cutout ). That bass looks just like my Stingray.

Not doing it for me with the pickguards on the L2000s. I like the L2000 without the pickguard much better. But some folks must like them.

I love the single coil on my front pickup but don't find much use for both pickups or the rear pickup in single coil mode. It's just hard to beat both pickups in series mode for me.

That looks cool.
I realise it is just an aesthetic thing for me but I'd like to see something like this with the scratchplate extending to the top horn, kinda like a Telecaster bass, and I'd also like to see a Stingray type metal control plate.
Call me kooky, that would look sweet to me!
I still can't find another bass that does a tone like my L2000 basses - active preamp on, both tones up full, both pickups on, parallel mode. Watch out!
