G&L Club Part 7

Link Removed

That is the one of, if not the best looking bass I've ever seen!!!! Already thought G&L's honey/cherry burst was a special colour, but with the addition of the maple top that is just stunning!

They sold this on TB for ~$1200 I believe. A FREAKIN' STEAL! I believe with all the options, this bass probably costs upwards for $2000 new. Trying to save my pennies for a deposit.

Impulse bought my first G&L this weekend, a Tribute L2000, having never even played one before (I have never seen one in a local store around here, nor any local musicians play one). I'm very impressed! For the same price as a black MIM Jazz standard, I'm already chalking it up as a bargain. The build quality is great, neck plays like a dream, and I can't put it down.

Had to rethink how I set everything on the bass, even the volume knob, but the more I play it, the more I realise how versatile it is. My only concern now is that I'll catch the G&L bug and cost myself a lot of money!

Bunyo, does yours have the wide and flat neck? In my case it seems to combat fatigue and give me just the right amount of space between strings
Yes its flat and wide. Not the flattest one on earth but much easier for me than Stingray. Besides that I still have to fight because my bass lines are pretty busy and have a lot of notes hitting with pick hard. With the right amount of heavy distortion from b3k and m80 thru old Mesa d180, two 1x15 Road Ready Mesa cabs. Woooohooo..!

I must say in all fairness
I have been playing G&L sinse 1986
And while I have owned other nice basses and just swapped gear for a new Schector 5 which is nice Imvho
Nothing compairs to G& L.
Both of mine have the actives removed and switches upgraded so I have full coil tapping.
Happy holiday
Thank a vet!

Has anyone got an idea if it will be possible to add single coil switching to an M2500? I'm thinking of perhaps adding one to the stable after I've played with the preamp on my incoming MJ-4 for a bit, but I really liked the coiltap on the L2500 I had, and really don't want to be without it.

You should read a couple pages back. Somebody else asked the same thing. I don't think it is possible. The M pickup differs from the L pickup. They have to have four wires per pickup first. I doubt that the m pickup has that. But if they have the second problem arises. The pickup output is different and this might be your biggest problem. The single coil might be to weak on it's own. But it might be worth checking it. If it doesn't work you could buy l pickups and put them in your bass.

Everything you want to know on coil tapping (K-switch) for an M-2X00 (including opinions and comments on tone plus wiring diagrams) can be found from TorBass's posts and the accompanying discussion in this TBF thread:
http://www.talkbass.com/threads/g-l-m2x000-users-soundclips.892290/page-3

For example:

(as you can see, the jack output socket is a low quality plastic item that Leo would have rejected, I had issues with it on my MIA M2500, so, I now have a Neutrik NYS2203 instead)

and:
Wiring diagram for the two K-switches (outer coils option) at

(sorry, posting the pictures does not work, so these are the links).
