G&L Club Part 7

Not sure how to elaborate, but I will say I thought my Jazz 5 had a slightly thicker inherent tone than my four-string Jazz basses. I'm not surprised that a larger, heavier neck would affect the tone of a bass, which might explain the accounts I've read about L-1505s sounding thicker and/or more balanced than L-1500s.

And I would want thicker tone than my L-1500, which sometimes sounded thin and nasal to me, but this varied enormously across different rigs, and even in different rooms. It usually didn't work so well with my G-K 700RB-II/Neo112 rig, but at one show that combination produced truly monstrous tone. So, at its best, it was unbeatable as a rock stage bass, but I prefer a more predictable plug-and-play experience, so I sold it after I bought an SB-2. All the MFD punch, more consistent heaviness.
Yeah, your explanation is crystal clear actually.
For some (stupid) reason I'd assumed a 1500 would roughly sound like a 1505 and left it at that since I'm not currently in need of a four-string. Plus my problem is exactly the opposite of yours: I'd really like a fiver that sounds like the four-string basses I like. I have two fivers, my first bass, one I could never bond with, and the L-1505 which, while sounding real great (not thin and nasal, that I can confirm!) doesn't cover the whole ground I need it to cover and give me options in active mode I don't really need.
Thanks for the extra info!

Hey guys. I was off and on the fence for the last couple years about an LB100 (newer one)....I almooost pulled the plug a few times, and got 'distraction noodle' syndrome and bought something else. Well....I got a brand new (looking) margarita metallic with maple FB... the worst part...no original case or documents. :( They said the original case likely went out the door with another bass by mistake.... so...... I reaaaallly don't want to purchase a copy from the website...it'll end up costing me nearly 100 bucks Canadian.... I would like to know if there's a website that shows the specs if I type in the serial number.... I have no idea what I just bought other than I A-B'd it to a couple band new Elites, MIA P's, and a EB Cutlass (looked nice)...and I immediately felt waaaay more at home with this bass. Colour...meh.....it's growing on me, like a fungus. ;). Serial number is CLF071220..... love the neck...feels much like my 1970 P. Any tips would be happily and greatly appreciated. :) Cheers from Toronto

1st off, congrats! I think that you can contact G&L and they can provide what you are looking for as far as the paperwork goes. I dont know if there is a charge for it or not.

Thanks pal. Yeah I'm on the site right now...looks like 26 bucks for the COA, and Same for spec sheet. :( I may have to bite the bullet...at least for the spec sheet. Cheers

G&L USA LB-100 Margarita Metallic Electric Bass Guitar Maple Neck Hardshell Case G & L
The ad title says "G&L Hardshell Case". You can claim a $200 discount/refund if it's missing.
The pictures show the paperwork. Add $52.

The LB-100 is a great bass, I have always dreamt of getting one (but with a 1-3/4" nut width).
Yours is awesome. Premium color with matching headstock!
And you're lucky, you've got a quartersawn neck for free.
Please post a picture of you playing it .

Funny, I see that a lot of players (at least on TB) haven't bonded with an L1500. When I solo mine in active mode at home, I agree it's mighty bright, maybe even harsh. But when I run it passive on stage, it just cuts in the way a Sting Ray cuts with even more tonal control, and my bandmates actually ask me to bring it to work. It's definitely made for live performance, IME.

Thats what I find in the G&L

With my L1505 - that warm fat "bedroom tone" is elusive, but bring it into a band setting and that's where it shines. I have a StingRay SR5 & the G&L has more punch

When I first got The G&L & played it at home I was afraid I had made a huge mistake & I was concerned that it would be to brash to play in the church service. On the contrary- my music director loves the tone and the way it cuts through the mid-range mud and really helps drive the band.

I don't know how old the Reverb ad is (it just says "ended!") nor if the seller is the same as @graphics1988 's.
980 views though.

..also unbelievable that its a 2014. I figured it was a 2017. Looks brand new and has zero playwear on the frets. NOT a mark dent scuff front or back...fingerprints on the black pickguard..thats about it.

Still love that table top. You should cut a piece off and make a bass out of it. :smug:

The used L2000 I picked up recently was just about the same story. No case, but no fret wear or scuffs. I've purchased "new" basses out of store that had more wear.
Congrats on the lime green machine!

Ditto here for my L1505. Not a mark or scratch anywhere on it. Trans-blue with maple edge binding that really makes it pop. The G&L even had the plastic coating still on the controls access plate. Original owner had installed a thumb rest, but I use it all the time when playing on the B- string, on the SR5 I rest my thumb on the neck P/U.

Fantastic bass.
